Objectives Rock Gobblers Phase II Solution SME/NSSGA Annual Competition •To clearly present all material requested in the problem statement •To systematically and logically present our findings regarding the feasibility of the site through the four asphalt plant alternatives Rosalyn de la Peňa Erica Doolittle Alek Duerksen Kate Glusiec Bridget Mead Jim Winfield •To identify a definite choice for the option to proceed with based on economic, socio-economic and environmental factors Presentation Outline Assumptions Mine Plan Overview Phase I Design Corrections Phase II Economic Analysis Sensitivity Analysis Environmental Impact Statement Ultimate Site Feasibility Conclusions •Overburden Density = 120 lb/cu ft •Rock Density = 170 lb/cu ft •State Road connects to primary highway & can sufficiently handle all dump truck traffic •Single blast design can be used for all blasts •Burden has a stiffness ratio of 3 to promote good horizontal rock mass movement •Annual capital costs for off-site asphalt plant include environmental protection devices (dust screens, etc.) •Wire mesh material cost was calculated and doubled as an estimate for contracting •Reclamation tasks are not considered “mining operations” as specified under permit conditions •Wind speed of 15mph will not be reached during blasting timeframe more than once a year •Blast fumes will not contaminate nearby water sources, if any •Fault geology will not affect slope stability and fault lines will not intersect the pit •Summer charges apply from May to August and Winter charges apply to all other months •Asphalt plants can handle 15% RAP and the needed volume is available by donation •$120,000 tax credit will be issued annually for recycling efforts with RAP •RAP use will lower oil consumption by 15% •Plants are assumed to reach full production during Year 1
