HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
Congrats Drama Club!
Stow Munroe Falls High School’s Drama
program was nominated to present a show for
the August 2013 American High School Theatre
Festival at the "Fringe" Festival in Edinburgh
Scotland. We are presently in the application
phase of the process.
Wind Ensemble
is off to Columbus!
The Stow-Munroe Falls High School Wind
Ensemble will take their talents to Columbus
in February as they perform at the Ohio
Music Education Association Professional
Development Convention. This group of
student musicians was chosen out of 120
applications and will be one of two high
schools invited to perform.
"This is the second time we have been invited
to perform," said Brian Monroe, SMFHS
Band director. "We have also been asked to
serve as a demonstration band for
International composer Dr. Robert Sheldon as
he presents a clinic for teachers. This is a
great honor and a wonderful opportunity for
our students."

High School String Orchestra
students prepare for contests
and competitions
Our high school string players will be
performing solos & ensembles for District VI
Contest on February 4, 2012 at Crestwood H.S.,
then participate in State Orchestra Contest in
Cleveland the weekend of March 2/3. After
that, they will travel to Chicago April 26-29 to
participate in Festivals of Music Competition
open to music groups from all over the country.
Good luck to Mrs. Hamilton and our high
school string orchestra!

Congratulations to
Kyle Scelza, Grade 12,
who set a school record
with eleven 3-point baskets
in the game against Kent Roosevelt
on Tuesday, December 27, 2011.
Kyle scored 38 total points in a win
versus the Rough Riders.
Congratulations to Tyler
Meredith, Grade 11,
who bowled a two-game
series of 299-300 = 599
two-game series. What an
outstanding accomplishment!
After bowling what could have been
his lowest two-game series, Junior
Tyler Meredith, came back home to
Stow-Kent Family Entertainment on
December 19 th to bowl the record
high series for high school bowling
in a two-game series of 299 - 300 =
599. Outstanding! His teammates
weren't to be outdone though and
helped back up his games with some
nice scores of their own:

Also, congratulations to Laura
Trevorrow (Grade 12) who rolled
267, 243 = 510 and broke the school
record for a two-game series!
A Big StuCo Thanks!
Student Council was in charge of the
Haven of Rest Holiday Drive. The
set goal for the drive was 4,000
individual items. With help from the
community, and a few other Stow
Schools, we were able to collect and
donate over 8,000 items!

Business Students reach out to
Children’s Hospital Patients
As an annual service project, Business
Management Level I students created
Christmas/Holiday cards for the patients at Akron
Children's Hospital. They made a wonderful
assortment of cards digitally on computers as well
as by hand. The students included uplifting
messages to provide encouragement and comfort
to patients who spend the holidays in the hospital.
It is an annual service project in Mrs. Forbes’
class which is well received by Children's
Hospital. They always send a lovely letter
thanking Stow-Munroe Falls High School
Business Students for their compassion and
commitment year after year.
Business Management students are planning
another service project in the spring which will be
collecting coloring books and crayons for
Children's Hospital.
Red Out
awarness in
the fight
against heart
disease
Student Council is currently selling “Red Out” t-
shirts to students, parents and staff for $10 each.
Shirts will be worn at the February 14 th Basketball
Game against Hudson High School. For

Student Council will also be selling hearts “in
honor of or in memory of” for $1.00 each, which
will be posted in the commons with names written
on the hearts.

SENIORS, DON’T MISS THE
OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO D.C.!
Any senior interested in attending the Close-Up
trip to Washington DC this spring needs to see
Mrs. Poole in Room 215. This all-inclusive
week-long experience provides students with
the chance to learn how our federal government
really works. Using the city as a living
classroom, students are given access to the
people, processes and places that make our
nation's capital so unique. This once-in-alifetime
trip will take place April 22-27, 2012.

NHS Tutoring
National Honors Society wants to remind
all students that they are offering tutoring
every period in the library. Get a pass
from a classroom teacher or your study
hall monitor.
The SMFHS DECA (An Association of
Marketing Students) club hosted a Mali
Ball Tournament in the high school gym
on December 21, 2011. The purpose of
the event was to help raise funds to build
a “Stow School” in Mali, Africa.

delivery within the high
school on Valentine’s
Day.
Orders will be taken during lunch periods for
two weeks prior.

Mrs. Whitmer’s Web Design Class submitted
designs for the high school’s Winter Athletic
Program cover. Ian Nopper - Grade 11 (left) won
$100 in the cover design & Dylan Gabel - Grade
10 (right) won $50. Covers were judged and prizes
awarded by the Stow-Munroe Falls Booster Club.

“The DECA students were amazing with the
leadership of President, Christopher Choler and
Vice Presidents, Olivia Alexander and Lauren
Schneider,” said DECA Advisor, Lisa S. Mowls.
The “Stow School” in Mali will need at least
$14,000 to become a reality and the idea came
from when Dr. Scott Lacy visited the school when
he received the honor of “Distinguished Alumni”
during Homecoming this past fall. The DECA
club has raised approximately $1,500 so far from
hosting Hoops for a Cause, Mali Ball, selling
candy bars, Mali T-shirts and Mali wristbands.
The next event is to hold a change collection for
two weeks at the high school and the class that
collects the most receives a breakfast bagel party.
