Reading and Comprehension<br />
Writing <strong>Skills</strong><br />
Yes/No Questions<br />
• Tell students to tear out Worksheet PP29.<br />
• Have students answer the questions on the worksheet by writing yes or no.<br />
Note: Use Worksheet PP30 for additional practice.<br />
Mark the Sentence<br />
• Tell students to tear out Worksheet PP31.<br />
• Tell students to read the sentences and put a check mark in the box next to the<br />
sentence that matches the picture.<br />
Reading Time<br />
• Have students reread any stories from either The Cat Bandit or Bedtime Tales.<br />
• Students who have strong code knowledge (as ascertained by placement<br />
assessments or performance) may also read trade books.<br />
Making Phrases<br />
• Write a selection of decodable nouns, adjectives, and verbs along with the<br />
Tricky Words I, you, your, street, my, by, have, all, who, no, go, so, are, were,<br />
they, their, and some on cards, one word per card.<br />
• Have students create phrases or sentences with these cards.<br />
• Have students copy the phrases or sentences on paper.<br />
Sentence Building<br />
• Write 10–15 decodable words on small cards. Each word should include one of<br />
the spellings students learned in <strong>Unit</strong> 2. Have students lay out the cards.<br />
• Give students a blank sheet of lined paper.<br />
• Ask students to write a sentence that includes one of the words on the cards.<br />
• Ask students to write a second sentence that contains two of the words on the<br />
cards.<br />
• Ask students if they can write a third sentence that includes three of the words<br />
on the cards.<br />
• Challenge students to keep going and see how many of the words they can get<br />
into a single sentence.<br />
