<strong>The</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Clunie</strong> <strong>Scheme</strong> in Outline<br />

Area <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Scheme</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Scheme</strong> area includes all<br />

those parts <strong>of</strong> farms and<br />

estates within the <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Clunie</strong> <strong>SSSI</strong>. Areas <strong>of</strong> suitable<br />

moorland habitat on these<br />

farms and estates outwith, but<br />

adjacent to, the <strong>SSSI</strong> are also<br />

included.<br />

Eligibility<br />

Anyone who has a legal right<br />

to manage land within the<br />

<strong>Scheme</strong> area and expects to<br />

have that right for at least five<br />

years can apply.<br />

Agreement<br />

Agreements will be for five years from the date relevant parties agree to start<br />

implementing the <strong>Moorland</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Plan. This must be within one year <strong>of</strong><br />

completing the Plan.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Moorland</strong> <strong>Scheme</strong>s booklet gives an outline <strong>of</strong> the agreement conditions.<br />

Detailed conditions are in the example agreement. You can get copies <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>Moorland</strong> <strong>Scheme</strong>s booklet and the example agreement from Emily Grant, the <strong>Forest</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Clunie</strong> Project Officer.<br />

Prescriptions and rates<br />

<strong>The</strong> available management prescriptions are listed and described, with payment<br />

rates, in the following pages. <strong>The</strong>y are arranged in four levels. All applicants would<br />

need to participate in Levels One and Two.<br />

Level One comprises the production <strong>of</strong> a moorland management plan for the farm or<br />

estate (whichever is the smaller) for which SNH will make an area based payment<br />

subject to a ceiling <strong>of</strong> £1,250 per plan. SNH will provide information on habitats, birds<br />

and archaeological interests and make available aerial photographs (on loan only).<br />

An example management plan layout with guidance is also available.<br />

Level Two comprises moorland management (burning or cutting) in accordance with<br />

<strong>The</strong> Muirburn Code for which SNH will make an area based annual payment subject<br />

to a ceiling <strong>of</strong> £5,000 per annum per farm or estate.
