SHRI RANJAN KUMAR SAHA<br />
Shri Ranjan Kumar Saha is heading Central Coalfields Ltd. (<strong>CCL</strong>) as<br />
Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) since 01.08.2008. Before taking over<br />
as CMD, <strong>CCL</strong>, Shri Saha had successfully shouldered varied higher<br />
responsibilities such as Director Technical (Operation) and Director Technical<br />
(Project & Planning) of <strong>CCL</strong>, CGM/Technical Secretary to Chairman, Coal India<br />
Limited (CIL), etc.<br />
He is a Graduate from ISM, Dhanbad with 1st class Mines Manager<br />
Certificate of Competency. Sri Saha started his professional career as a Mining Engineer by joining<br />
Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL) and has also worked in various CIL<br />
subsidiaries like B<strong>CCL</strong>, ECL and CIL Corporate office before joining as Director (Tech) <strong>CCL</strong>. While in<br />
CMPDIL, he underwent training in UK under ‘Colombo Plan’ in 1981 on “Operational Planning for<br />
Mechanized Longwall Faces”. Besides, Shri Saha has represented high-powered business missions<br />
abroad and visited countries like USA, Germany, UK, Singapore and Poland. Shri Saha is considered<br />
instrumental in successful introduction of mechanization in underground mines of the subsidiary<br />
Companies of CIL. During his tenure in ECL from 1999 to 2005, he made significant contribution in<br />
turning around the Company (ECL), which registered maiden profit in 2005-06.<br />
<strong>CCL</strong> got the status of Mini Ratna Category-I Company during his tenure as Director (Technical).<br />
As CMD, <strong>CCL</strong> he steered the Company to achieve the highest production level of 47.52 MT with a<br />
record profit of 1246.83 Crore (Net Profit After Tax) in FY <strong>2010</strong>-<strong>11</strong>.<br />
He has been associated with various professional bodies, viz, the President of MGMI (Apex<br />
Body), member of the Executive Board of SCOPE (Standing Conference on Public Enterprises) and<br />
also the Vice-president of the Eastern Region Chapter of United Nation Global Compact. He is also a<br />
member of Consultative Committee of East Central Railway. He has been conferred Fellowship of the<br />
World Academy of Productivity Science, Montreal for making significant contributions through promotion<br />
of productivity.<br />
