Belong Life March 2011 Pop maestro Pete Waterman celebrated another hit when he officially opened Belong Crewe on Friday, January 28th. The record producer, songwriter and television presenter who presided over 22 No. 1 UK hit singles and was a judge on the TV talent show, Pop Idol, toured the village and met many of the residents. Mr Waterman, a railway enthusiast, knows Crewe well and owns LNWR Heritage, a steam locomotive and carriage restoration company which is based at Crewe Heritage Centre. He was delighted to discover that Belong Crewe’s ‘households’ - the beautifully-appointed family-sized living areas - were all named after classes of locomotives that have passed through the town. After the opening ceremony, Mr Waterman unveiled an artistically-enhanced original photograph by the renowned rail photographer E.R. Morten from 1937 of LMS (London Midland & Scottish Railways) Stanier, Class 5 (Black five), 4-6-0, 5297. “We were delighted to have Mr Waterman open Belong Crewe,” said Belong Chief Executive Nick Dykes. “His enthusiasm for Crewe and its railway heritage quickly endeared him to our residents, who were delighted to have the opportunity to share their own memories of the area with him.” Pete with E.R.
