The oil and gas industry continues to generate opportunities via technological innovations to enhance its success in
locating, extracting, and transporting oil and gas supplies to meet global demand. Our business today is very much a
“high-tech” business. Technology has given us the ability to supply energy from sources once considered impossible to
access. This is illustrated best in today’s ultimate recoverable of conventional oil worldwide that is 50 percent more than
the estimate 20 years ago. Our industry has a track record of innovating, integrating and deploying new technologies, so
we are well to tackle current and future challenges, for example, a powerful enabler of cost reduction, especially in a high
cost environment. These have required massive investments of capital (both human and money), and time in research
and development. Some of these have been possible through collaboration and partnership between IOC, NOC, service
companies and academic institutions.
Speakers will address different aspects of funding, nurturing and building capability in order to continue to push the
envelope of technology innovation and produce more hydrocarbons, especially from unconventional deposits of oil and
gas, and the changing roles between IOCs, NOCs and service companies.
