Show imagination and creativity: Okay, so you do have a unique angle and it is for a
good cause, but does your site demonstrate creativity and imagination.
Make visitors want to return: Cleverness and gimmickry alone probably won’t do it.
It helps if you offer something memorable that makes visitors want to return.
Look professional, sophisticated: This characteristic alone won’t get you selected but
combined with one or both of the previous two definitely improves your chances.
Worksheet for Learning How to Become a Cool Site
1. Research the shared characteristics of "cool sites". A good place to start is the cool sites listed
at the Website Promoters Resource Center at http://www.wprc.com/fldb/dbase/hot/dbhot.html.
Visit some of these sites and analyze why they were selected. It will improve the odds that your
site will be the next "cool site". As long as you are visiting these sites, might as well nominate
your site, or, at least, bookmark them to return when you feel your site is better positioned for
being selected. Started with the biggest and best sites (e.g., Cool Site of the Day). They will have
the most impact on traffic if your site is selected. We selected these as the best to visit:
Cool Site of the Day
2. You may want to complete a Site Evaluation Form for the sites visited. Some of them will
have instructional value. Evaluate the cool sites selected in terms of:
Why was it selected?
