30 Years of the Great North Run
18 June - 1 October 2011
For one Sunday every year, South Shields is the
focus of the world’s media. This is the story of the
Great North Run, the world’s most popular half
marathon, from its creation to the people who
take part.

Find out more about the history of South
Tyneside from, 4,000 years ago through to
the present day, visit the Museum’s art collection,
and even get up close to a giant python!

Crossing the Tyne
22 October 2011 - 28 January 2012
Following the completion of the new Tyne
Tunnel, this exhibition looks at the history of
all the crossings across the River Tyne.
Style it Rich: Kerry Judson
11 February - 14 April 2012
Is fashion art? This new exhibition shows work
by South Shields based artist and fashion
designer Kerry Judson, and includes images
of icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Lady Gaga
and Betty Boop.

Something Old, Something New
28 April - 8 September 2012
A spectacular array of wedding dresses from
the past 100 years will take pride of place in
this exciting new exhibition, which reveals the
wedding traditions and customs of different
communities in the North East.
