ARTISTIC DIRECTOR JEAN GRAND MAÎTRE
HAVE AN EXTRAORDINARY GROUP
EXPERIENCE WITH ALBERTA BALLET
GREAT MASTERPIECES
OF THE 20TH CENTURY
Showcasing three masterpieces
of the modern era, this production
celebrates the genius of
Balanchine, Philip Glass, Twyla
Tharp, and Mozart, and is an
intriguing celebration of New York’s
contributions to ballet.
OTHELLO
This epic production builds on its
namesake Shakespearean tragedy
of love, jealousy, deceit, revenge,
and murder. Othello pairs Kirk
Peterson’s highly theatrical and
athletic choreography with the music
of Jerry Goldsmith to create rich
layers of desire for an unforgettable
evening.
THE NUTCRACKER
Alberta Ballet’s yearly tradition of
celebrating the holidays with your
family returns in this multimilliondollar
production of Edmund
Stripe’s classic. Bring your family
to experience the magic of
Tchaikovsky’s epic story of the Rat
King, the Sugar Plum Fairy, Klara,
and her Nutcracker.
HELIOS DANCE THEATER
Literature comes to life through
two extraordinary performances
in one night. First, About Anne: A
Diary In Dance, based on Anne
Frank’s The Diary of a Young Girl,
celebrates the power of human
potential. Next, The Lotus Eaters,
a modern interpretation of Homer’s
The Odyssey, is a powerfully kinetic
testimony to the nature of resistance
and temptation.
CALGARY | DEC 20-24, 2012
CELEBRATING MOZART
We bring you one of the biggest
productions ever to grace our stage.
Uniting five of Alberta’s largest arts
organizations, Mozart’s Requiem
brings together more than 180
performers. The night also includes
the world premiere of Pomp Without
Circumstance – an amusing
depiction of French aristocracy.
BALLETLUJAH!
Jean Grand-Maître’s latest portrait
ballet is an intense collaboration
with Alberta’s-own k.d. lang.
This contemporary ballet takes
audiences through the ethos and
emotion of the voice and personality
that has captivated audiences
around the world for almost 30
years.
