and<br />

<strong>University</strong> Honors<br />

Program Admission


<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Cloud</strong> <strong>St</strong>ate <strong>University</strong> seeks to reward high achieving students for<br />

their academic successes through various scholarship opportunities.<br />

As part of your application for admission, you are also applying for<br />

merit scholarships. <strong>St</strong>udents who apply by the posted deadlines will<br />

automatically be considered for the following scholarships:<br />

First Year <strong>St</strong>udent <strong>Scholarships</strong><br />

First year students who are admitted to the <strong>University</strong> prior to scholarship deadlines will be<br />

considered for all scholarships for which they meet the minimum requirements. These scholarships<br />

awarded through the Office of Admissions will not require an additional application and are<br />

merit based; factoring into consideration a student’s academic record and standardized test scores.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents receiving awards will be notified following the deadlines. To be eligible, students must earn<br />

traditional admission into the <strong>University</strong> and have official ACT or SAT scores on file with the Office<br />

of Admissions.<br />

Fall Semester Application Deadline: December 15<br />

Spring Semester Application Deadline: October 15<br />

Transfer <strong>St</strong>udent <strong>Scholarships</strong><br />

Transfer students should demonstrate achievement with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a<br />

4.0 scale and have at least 40 transferrable credits prior to enrollment to be strong candidates for<br />

scholarships. All <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Cloud</strong> <strong>St</strong>ate <strong>University</strong> transfer students are automatically considered for the<br />

academic scholarships and thus there is no application to complete. All transfer students must be<br />

admitted to the <strong>University</strong> by the following deadlines to be considered for automatic scholarships.<br />

Fall Semester Application Deadline: March 15<br />

Spring Semester Application Deadline: October 15<br />

Cultural Diversity <strong>Scholarships</strong><br />

New students who contribute to the cultural diversity at <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Cloud</strong> <strong>St</strong>ate <strong>University</strong> will be<br />

automatically considered for these awards. To be eligible, students should demonstrate strong<br />

academic achievement through their curriculum, academic record and standardized test scores.<br />

In order to be considered for a cultural diversity scholarship, students must be admitted prior to:<br />

Fall Semester: December 15 Spring Semester: October 15<br />

Non-Resident Tuition <strong>Scholarships</strong><br />

Non-Resident Tuition <strong>Scholarships</strong> are awarded to freshman students who do not otherwise qualify<br />

for in-state or reciprocity tuition. Recipients pay the equivalent of in-state tuition. Applicants must<br />

rank in the top 15% of their graduating class or earn a composite score of 25 or above on the ACT.<br />

Non-Resident Tuition <strong>Scholarships</strong> are awarded to transfer students who do not otherwise qualify<br />

for in-state or reciprocity tuition. Recipients pay the equivalent of in-state tuition. Applicants must<br />

provide evidence of a 3.0 GPA in all college work (minimum 24 transferrable credits) to qualify.<br />

All students who meet the above requirements will be automatically awarded the Non-Resident<br />

Tuition Scholarship on an on-going basis. There is no application deadline.

3. Attach a current transcript to your scholarship application<br />

4. Applications must be postmarked by the indicated deadlines<br />

5. <strong>St</strong>udents applying for scholarships that require financial need as a component of their criteria<br />

Activities Résumé<br />

All applicants must submit an activities résumé indicating their involvement in extra/co-curricular<br />

activities, community involvements, and employment experiences. Please indicate leadership<br />

positions and length of involvement.<br />

Essay<br />

All applicants must submit an essay with a guideline of approximately 300 words.<br />

Please answer one of the following essay questions:<br />

1. People and events can impact our lives in profound ways. Tell us about an experience that<br />

significantly affected who you are as a person or student.<br />

2. Select a book that has special significance to you. Explain.<br />

Lauren Marie Riesgraf Endowed Scholarship<br />

New first year students from Maple Grove and Annandale High Schools who have a minimum<br />

3.0 GPA are eligible to apply for the Lauren Marie Riesgraf Endowed Scholarship. <strong>St</strong>udents must<br />

work part time during college to support their educational pursuits. <strong>St</strong>udents wishing to apply must<br />

submit an essay addressing the following topic:<br />

Describe your goals and aspirations upon graduation from high school and how receiving this<br />

scholarship may help you in the pursuit of your dreams.<br />

Our highest achieving students will be invited to the <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Cloud</strong> <strong>St</strong>ate <strong>University</strong> campus in February<br />

to participate in our <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Cloud</strong> <strong>St</strong>ate <strong>University</strong> Scholars Day. <strong>St</strong>udents will interview for prestigious<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Cloud</strong> <strong>St</strong>ate <strong>University</strong> scholarships and discuss opportunities available through the <strong>University</strong><br />

Honors Program with select faculty and staff. <strong>St</strong>udents who have applied for admission prior to<br />

December 15 will be considered for invitation to this exciting event.<br />

Additional <strong>Scholarships</strong><br />

While the majority of <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Cloud</strong> <strong>St</strong>ate <strong>University</strong> scholarships are awarded based upon a student’s<br />

application for admission, select awards do require additional paperwork. The enclosed application<br />

will provide students the opportunity to apply for scholarships which require specific criteria of the<br />

recipient. <strong>St</strong>udents must carefully follow all instructions to be considered for the scholarships.<br />

Legacy Tuition Waivers<br />

Legacy Tuition Waivers are available for students from non-reciprocity states who are not otherwise<br />

receiving in-state tuition rates. <strong>St</strong>udents whose parent, step-parent or adopted parent graduated<br />

from <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Cloud</strong> <strong>St</strong>ate <strong>University</strong> are eligible for this award, which enables recipients to pay the<br />

equivalent of in-state tuition. <strong>St</strong>udents can apply for this award by submitting the enclosed<br />

application.<br />

Departmental <strong>Scholarships</strong><br />

Individual departments at <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Cloud</strong> <strong>St</strong>ate <strong>University</strong> also may provide scholarships to new, entering<br />

students. Requirements for these awards are set forth by the department in which the student has<br />

chosen to major or participate. <strong>St</strong>udents should contact the departments directly if interested in<br />

pursuing departmental scholarships for application materials and deadlines.<br />
