26 JULY 2012 MIGRANTS & REFUGEES 1. Pray for those who come to our land to escape oppression, poverty, persecution, violence, and war; 2. Pray that the authorities will not to treat these migrants with fear and doubt and suspicion, but with dignity, respect and love; 3. Pray that our nation, its leaders and its peoples will welcome migrants and refugees with joy and generosity, while responding to their many needs, as they come to our country to learn the ways of peace and justice, yet yearn for home; Pray that they may find Him in all His glory here through the love of the Christian community for them, and experience a true life-‐changing experience with Jesus Christ; 4. Pray that cultural and societal barriers in our hearts and in our minds to be removed and to embrace them as our own brothers and sisters; 5. Pray for the nation and the church to share of our abundance with them and to give witness of His love; 6. Pray for Malaysia to ratify UN’s migrant resolutions, and to pray against all evil machinations bent on trafficking and oppression; 7. Pray for protection of young girls and children from traffickers, for stronger legislation and political will to treat inhumane modern slavery with great punishment; Pray for justice to be meted out against traffickers and those in government abetting such crimes.
27 A Creative Way to Pray Set up a space with the various maps and people groups who are migrants in this country. Put together cultural items that are unique and special to these peoples, e.g. costumes, jewellery, jars, mats etc. Pray for each of these communities as we place these items in our hands. Visit these migrant centres in this country and with their permission, take some pictures. Better still, commit a day in the week to teach them English and minister to them. Post up these pictures on the prayer wall, place names on them and pray for each one by name together with their specific prayer requests. Many are hoping for economic freedom as they get re-‐settled. Psalm 140:12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy. Leviticus 19: 33-‐34 When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-‐born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God. Exodus 23: 9 You must not oppress the stranger; you know how a stranger feels, for you lived as strangers in the land of Egypt.
