Indict Ex-Deputy Sheriff, Two Others in Bombings HOUSTON—Former Deputy Sheriff John L. Fiteh and two other men were indicted by the Harris county grand jury in connection with the tear gas bombing of a Baytown theatre last month. Named as principal in the bombings was Clarence Nelson, a projectionist and member of Local 279 of the Motion Picture Machine Operators, which is striking against the East Texas Theatres. Fitch was named as an accessory to Nelson, as was William E. Hogue. Fitch and Hogue are members of the local. Specifically, Nelson is charged with being in possession of an injurious bomb. Bond for each man was set at $1,000. If convicted Nelson can get from one to 25 years in the penitentiary. Both Fitch and Hogue can only get a $25 fine as accessories. The indictments followed closely a $600,000 damage suit filed against the local union by the theatre company, which accused Fitch of enabling Nelson to evade arrest. Fitch's connection with the bombing case came to light last month while Sheriff Kern's department was under investigation by the grand jury. Sheriff Kern arrested both Fitch and Nelson. Fitch said in a statement that he was told that Nelson was badly burned and needed help. Sheriff Kern said Nelson's burns were caused by a bomb exploding in Athens, Tex., Theatres Sold by Dorbandts ATHENS, TEX. — The Dorbandt family, which pioneered the motion picture business here 38 years ago, has sold the Dixie and Liberty theatres to Roy Parnell, owner of the Texan Theatre, and Owen Killingsworth. Parnell has long been associated with the theatre business throughout the state. The Dixie and Liberty were opened by N. G. Dorbandt, formerly of Burnet, and his two sons 'Will and Ed. The father died a few years ago and Ed died recently. Will is retiring. Parnell and Killingsworth also plan a his pocket. Fitch said he came to Houston and obtained bandages and medicine from Jefferson Davis hospital to treat the injured man. And, he said, he later took Nelson to 'Veterans hospital under cover of darkness. Both Fitch and Nelson were hailed before drive-in theatre. the grand jury early last month, but no Thomas Matthews, E. B. The drive-in will accommodate about 600 cars and will have seats for about 50 persons, lounges, a large patio, a playground for children and a 60-foot tower. It will be located on an 11-acre site. The Delman arranged a special showing of the 1944 film, "The Purple Heart," following the Russell speech. Proceeds went to the post's hospital fund. Gilbert Rounsaville Shifted HOLDEN'VILLE, OKLA.—Gilbert Rounsaville has replaced Pete Kempf as manager of theatres here. Kempf was transferred to Miami, Okla. Rounsaville has managed theatres at Norman, Bartleseville. Okmulgee and Shawnee, Okla. The subject was produced entirely by Texans. Film Stars in Oil Strike WICHITA FALLS, TEX.—John Wayne and Gene Autry have been added to the list of Texas oil men. The two, with S. D. Johnson, Wichita Falls oil operator, struck oil with the No. 1 Helms well in the Wolfe field three miles east of Jermyn in Jack county. The well flowed 218 barrels of oil in a four-hour test.
