General Information
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Cardiology
Mayo Cardiovascular Review Course for Cardiology Boards and Recertification will
provide the internist and cardiologist with an overview of all aspects of cardiovascular
medicine. In-depth didactics on state-of-the-art subjects in cardiovascular medicine will
be given by well-known experts in each field. Each lecture will be followed by a
multiple question and answer session with an on-line computer-response system.
Although this course is designed specifically to prepare the cardiovascular specialist for
the Cardiovascular Boards, it will also provide the internist or practicing cardiologist
with an update on the latest knowledge and advances in cardiovascular medicine.
There will be a full day specifically designed for participants taking the cardiovascular
certification boards and recertification examinations. On Saturday, the day before the
opening of the official course, there will be a series of lectures on various topics
specifically aimed at board review. Dr. Joseph Murphy will give his talk on “How to Ace
the Boards.” There will be lectures on pharmacology, molecular biology, and statistics.
The afternoon will consist of special imaging sessions of noninvasive imaging modalities,
cardiac catheterization tracings, and chest x-rays. There will then be a separate evening
session dedicated to basic cardiovascular hemodynamics, geared specifically toward
board review.
Since the cardiovascular boards involve patient management questions, there will be a
special session Sunday evening during which patient management questions will be
discussed in a board simulation manner. On Tuesday evening, an electrophysiology
tracing mock test will be given, again simulating the cardiovascular boards.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course, the participant should be able to:
• Interpret EKG and EP tracings
• Evaluate the patient with adult congential heart disease
• Interpret echocardiographic tracings
• Analyze complex hemodynamics
• Diagnose and treat the patient with acute coronary symptoms
• Evaluate the patient with heart failure
