It is by the authority of the Bishop of Cleveland that we teach the<br />

Catholic Tradition. The ultimate goal of our school is to facilitate the<br />

growth of Christ’s Spirit. In witness to this spirit, we minister to one<br />

another and to the greater communities of our school, our city, our<br />

country, and our world.<br />

Mission In the spirit of the Gospel, we are committed to educate the<br />

whole person to lead and to serve: enlightening the mind, developing the<br />

body, touching the heart, and inspiring the soul.<br />

Accreditation Akron’s first institution for Catholic, coeducational<br />

secondary education, chartered by the <strong>St</strong>ate of Ohio and accredited by<br />

the North Central Association of Secondary <strong>School</strong>s and Colleges since<br />

1950. <strong>St</strong>.<strong>Vincent</strong>-<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Mary</strong> is also accredited by the Ohio Catholic <strong>School</strong>s<br />

Accreditation Association.<br />

Leadership Locally owned and controlled by an independent Board of<br />

Trustees in cooperation with the Headmaster, Chief Operating Officer,<br />

administrative team, faculty, parents, and support organizations, and with<br />

religious direction from the Diocese of Cleveland.<br />

Teacher/<strong>St</strong>udent Ratio 1 classroom teacher per 15 students.<br />

Graduates An average of 98% of <strong>St</strong>.<strong>Vincent</strong>-<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Mary</strong> graduates enroll in<br />

four year colleges and universities across the country immediately upon<br />

graduation, with the majority of students awarded scholarships and grants.<br />

The Class of 2010 earned $9 million dollars.<br />

The merging of Akron’s first two Catholic<br />

schools, <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Mary</strong> and <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Vincent</strong>, is portrayed<br />

in the official crest of STVM. Featured in gold<br />

on a green background are a cross, a torch, and<br />

a plow and sword. The cross symbolizes the<br />

religious foundation of the school. The torch,<br />

symbolizing learning, differs from traditional<br />

designs in that it is held by two hands, one<br />

representing each school. The plow and sword<br />

symbolize commitment to social justice and were part of the crest of<br />

the late Bishop Clarence Issenman, who directed the formation of <strong>St</strong>.<br />

CLASS OF 2010<br />

• 99% of the <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Vincent</strong>-<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Class of 2010 is<br />

pursuing higher education at colleges and universities<br />

• These students were awarded $9 million in scholarships<br />

and grants<br />

• 96% of seniors were accepted at their first choice college<br />

• Advanced Placement - 57 students took 108 tests in six subjects.<br />

Ninety-nine tests (92%) had a score of 3, 4, or 5. A score of 3<br />

or more is College Board’s recommendation that students receive<br />

college credit or advanced standing<br />

• 100% of the Class of 2010 passed all five sections of the OGT<br />

• The class of 2010 completed over 20,000 hours of Christian Service<br />

FINE ART<br />

• 10 STVM art students recognized for excellence in regional<br />

competitions. Four students advanced to compete at the national<br />

level, with one student’s portfolio winning a Gold Medal<br />

BAND<br />

• 5 members chosen to perform with the Kent <strong>St</strong>ate University<br />

All-<strong>St</strong>ar ensembles<br />

• Selected “Best Overall” in Akron <strong>St</strong>. Patrick’s Day Parade<br />
