Potentate’s Report 

Spring certainly has taken it’s time 

arriving this year however; through 

rain or snow the Divan has been 

extremely busy since January 11th. We 

have attended eleven Installations, a 

couple of Official/Ladies Nights and 

several excellent Shrine and Masonic 

gatherings, celebrations and an excellent 

Shrine/Masonic Showcase. 

On Sunday, March 17th we had the 

great pleasure of witnessing the Omar 

Temple No. 111, Daughters of the Nile Installation of 

Officers and the crowning of Queen Evelyn Hawkins. The 

ritual and ceremonies were absolutely top-notch and it was 

an honour to be included in this special event. Good luck 

to all and to Past Queen Sandra Rank – it was indeed a 

pleasure sharing leadership time with you at Mocha. 

In early April, at our Grand Lodge (Ontario Leaders 

Seminar) the Potentates of the three Ontario Shrine Temples 

and our Grand Master M.W. Bro. D. Garry Dowling signed 

a 4-part agreement. This agreement will now permit the ‘Be 

A Shriner Now’ logo or website link to be included in all 

Craft Lodge summons, along with the contact information 

for the governing Shrine Temples. This novel membership 

idea was put together by Mocha’s hard working Membership 

Committee including Noble Shayne Eldridge under the 

direction of Noble Harry Hewbank leading the way. I thank 

each and every one of the Committee for their hard work, 

dedication and for showing Mocha as leading the way in 

membership development province-wide. 

Saturday, April 13th witnessed two major Masonic and 

Shrine-Mason events. In the afternoon, Past Potentate 

George Sims orchestrated an inaugural and most successful 

Shrine/Masonic Showcase in Chatham – highlighted by 

the entertainment of Shrine Patient Ambassador Jeremy 

Gabriel from Quebec. The event was well presented and 

attended and congratulations go out to Ill. Sir Sims on your 

never ending search to attract more Shriners. In the evening, 

the London Masonic Districts hosted their Grand Master’s 

Reception. Over 350 Masons and Ladies were treated to a 

most entertaining night and it proved to be a most fitting 

tribute to our Grand Master and Lady Wendy. 

By the time you receive this issue, the Mocha Ball will have 

taken place and I thank all of you that attended and all those 

that helped to make it possible. The May 8th Stated meeting 

will also be history and I thank Imp. Sir Jerry Gantt for his 

attendance. 

Our next Clubs/Units Seminar is scheduled for June 1st 

at Mocha – followed the next weekend by the Spring 

Ceremonial in London June 7–8th. This would be a great 

opportunity to bring a new Noble into the world’s greatest 

Philanthropy. Thanks to Boris, George, Stew and First 

Lady Deb for their hard work in putting this event on. 

Look for the Shrine flyer in the London Community 

News on the Thursday before the Ceremonial. 

In July, the Divan and several other members of Mocha, 

including our Town Crier Ill. Sir George Sims and 

the Mocha Jeepsters are off to Imperial Sessions in 

Indianapolis. It appears that one of the big issues facing 

the delegates will be the state of conditions between 

Shriners International and the Grand Masters of Arkansas 

and South Carolina and the fallout that may occur as a 

result. As evidenced above, we at Mocha enjoy a close and 

constructive relationship with our Grand Master and it is 

a real honour for me to share the front cover with Mocha’s 

own M.W. Bro. D. Garry Dowling, Grand Master of the 

Grand Lodge of Canada, in the Province of Ontario!

Nobles, Greetings from the 

Recorder’s Office 

Here it is into April already. Can you 

believe it? We still do not have the 

best of weather as of yet, with rain, 

rain, rain this makes me think that 

I am still living in Britain. 

I would like to take this opportunity 

to thank Noble Dwight Coughlan 

and his team for all their hard work and the excellent 

job of our most recent Mocha News. Congratulations 

to a job well done! 

As you know the Mocha Ball is just around the corner 

and this makes me think that the good weather is also 

right around the corner. We are looking forward to 

attending the gala again as it is being held right here at 

the Centre in our newly renovated banquet hall. I am 

sure the event will be enjoyed by all those who attend. 

In about a month’s time, the Spring Ceremonial 

will be upon us with the first section being held at 

Dufferin Hall and the second section being held at the 

Mocha Shrine Centre. All meals are being prepared 

by Delectable Eats and held at Mocha other than the 

Ladies’ Luncheon to be held at Dufferin Hall. If you 

do not have your tickets as of yet, they are available in 

the main office at Mocha until May 31st. If you are 

attending the Spring Ceremonial, remember to bring 

your current dues card. If you have not yet paid this 

year’s dues, I recommend you send payment as soon as 

possible. Please remember, you can always pay your dues 

online. Just visit our website at www.mochashriners.org. 

From June 30 to July 4, 2013, the 140th Imperial 

Session will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana. I hope 

to see many of you down there. If any Mocha Units 

wishing to attend have not already registered, please do 

so as soon as possible. 

Since summer is just around the corner, Lady Sally and I 

would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your 

families a happy and safe summer. As always my office 

door is open any time I am there, so drop in and sit for a 

couple of minutes and have a small chat.

I welcome you to the second edition of the New 

Mocha News. Thank you to all who wrote to me 

in regards to the new look. 

As we continue to reach out to the membership 

I was wondering if the Mocha News is the right 

platform. In today’s ever changing environment 

I wonder if we should be looking at new ways to 

communicate. If you feel that the Mocha News 

is the right vehicle, send me a note saying so, if 

you would like to see change, send me a note with 

your ideas. If half of our membership would like 

to receive the Mocha News electronically we can 

save money there. If they would like to see the 

Mocha News only 3 times a year we could save 

money there. Send me your thoughts and let’s 

continue to evolve. 

I put the following challenge out to our Nobles of 

the North, I would like to hear from you. If you 

have any stories, pictures, or would like to talk 

about an event that your holding please contact 

me. We need to know what you’re up to.

Dear Noble. 

I hope you have noticed that I wear two Fezs at Mocha, 

Chaplain and Donor Relations. I write to you for this 

May issue of the Mocha News wearing my “Donor 

Relations” fez. In Particular I wish to write about 

planned giving. All too often we give left-overs, which 

is the money we find in our pockets when we meet 

a Shriner at the Mall selling the ‘seasonal product’. 

Planned giving is the Stewardship of God’s gifts to 

us – it is when we sit down and intentionally plan to 

give money. In this case I am talking about Shriners 

Hospitals for Children – Canada. Because we are 

Shriners, we have an interest in our own philanthropy, 

which has one of the best records for a high percentage 

of your dollars getting to our Hospitals! 

Part of planned giving could be a legacy in your will, 

which I trust you have. If you die without a will you are 

said to be “intestate”. That almost sounds like a disease 

that you would not wish to catch. If you do not have 

a will the public trustee takes over and looks after our

estate giving money to all the relatives who come out 

of the woodwork. (if this is not true I am sure to hear 

from Noble Fred MacKewn our Mocha solicitor.) So 

plan now where your money will go. Plan with your 

family so that they know where you are leaving money. 

A few years ago, a Shriner left a large legacy to Mocha. 

His children contested the will and Mocha ended up 

with nothing. 

Another part of planned giving may be life insurance. 

The Shrine can be named the beneficiary of a policy that 

is paid up. For younger Shriners it is possible to buy life 

insurance and name the Shrine the beneficiary and then 

the premiums are a tax deductible charitable donation. 

I had better quit before I start writing of things I 

have no knowledge. See your own lawyer and financial 

planner for advice on how to do these things. All 

material gifts are gifts from God and we are only 

stewards of them while we are alive. Plan for the 

distribution of these Gifts after you are finished 

with them.

It has been a time-honoured tradition at the Mocha Ceremonials to name the 

“Class of Candidates” after an outstanding Shriner or group of Shriners in the 

local area. 

I am proud this year, to name the Spring Ceremonial Class after three London 

Shriners, each of whom has had a large influence on my Masonic and Shrine 

journeys. They are Noble Ron Sewell, Noble Andy Anderson and Noble Joe Scott 

and not surprisingly are all members of my Mother Lodge – St. John’s Lodge No. 20. 

Together, these Nobles have a century and a half of Masonic and Shrine service 

in the London area and each of them, in his own special way, has provided strong 

leadership, knowledge, encouragement and support to me and many, many others 

– for as long as I can remember!

RoyAL SCOTS O’Mocha 

The Royal Scots enjoyed another 

busy year in 2012. Our season 

started in January when we were 

invited to play for the Scottish 

Appreciation Night so ably hosted 

by Kilwinning Lodge, always an 

entertaining evening. We also 

enjoyed the Shrine Club’s Robbie 

Burns Dinner. It’s a good thing we 

are all haggis aficionados! 

We spent our winter practices 

getting ready for the Kiwanis 

competitions under the leadership 

of our music director Ken Webster. 

In April, Don Gale, Winston 

Kooistra, and John Lynes travelled 

to Michigan City, Indiana to attend 

a Piping and Drumming Seminar 

sponsored by The Orak Shrine 

Club. (We won’t report on the 

actual trip… it’s an inside story!! 

Suffice it to say some time was 

spent at the side of an interstate). 

In June we once again played for 

Kilwinning’s Sunrise Service and 

Breakfast. We always look forward 

to one of the best breakfast buffets 

around. We were also pleased to 

play at the Spring Ceremonial held 

in Strathroy. 

During the summer we played at 

the Bothwell Car Show, and in the 

Wheatley Fish Festival Parade. We 

also marched in the Annual Labour 

Day Parade in Sarnia. 

A mid -September weekend found 

the band competing at the GLSA 

held in Mason, Ohio. We were 

really pleased that every member 

who competed won a medal, 

AND… drum roll please… 

we won the trophy in 

the band competition! 

All this success fuelled 

our enthusiasm when 

we played at both the 

Thorndale Fall Fair and 

Wallacetown Fair. 

We had a bit of a break 

in October while we 

readied ourselves for 

our usual busy Santa 

Claus Parade schedule. 

Scottish Appreciation Night 

It started in November when we 

participated in the Christmas 

festivities in Dutton and enjoyed 

a Christmas drink back at John 

McIntyre’s house. Next we were 

hosted in our annual pre-parade 

get together at Jim Carmichael’s 

which warms us up for the West 

Lorne Parade. November ended 

with us playing an evening parade 

in Parkhill, where we are hosted 

a to a post parade supper at the 

Legion. (Did we mention how 

good their sandwiches are?) Our 

last parade for the season was 

in Bothwell… always dangerous 

as our wives go shopping at the 

furniture store! 

December also saw us enjoying 

our annual Christmas party at the 

Shrine Club. We had cocktails 

while we visited with one another, 

followed by a delicious turkey 

dinner. After dinner we always 

enjoy some good old fashioned 

music provided by Charlie 

Thomson, Don Gale, John 

McIntyre, and Jim Carmichael. 

The culmination of the evening 

was the horse race game which 

has become so popular that we 

now have simultaneous events to 

ensure full participation! 

January saw some changes to 

the Band executive. Our Band 

Director for the last few years has 

been Charlie Thomson, who has 

decided to step aside. His role 

will be ably carried out by Don 

Gale. Stew Watt has finished his 

time as secretary and his shoes

will be filled by Winston Kooistra. 

Our outgoing treasurer, Andy 

Longridge has turned the books 

over to Dave Kincaid. We wish to 

thank Charlie, Andy and Stew for 

their contributions and wish our 

new executive members all the 

best in their positions.

the skirl of the pipes or the beat of 

the drums please join us at one of 

our practices (second and fourth 

Tuesdays of the month). To find

HILLbILLy SHRINERS 

Hillbilly Clan 59 recognizes an outstanding Shriner: 

Cuzzin’ George Hillman 

Cuzzin’ George has been actively 

involved in Clan 59 for over 25 years. 

He is a Past Raban and has served 

as Chairman of many of the Clan’s 

Committees. George is accompanied 

by his wife, Mama Bonnie, to 

practically all afternoon and evening 

parades, and supports him traveling 

to numerous conventions and other 

Hillbilly festivities. 

CONCERT Band 

Musicians always remember their 

first music teacher. In my case it 

was my father who taught me to 

play the saxophone at the age of 

eight. As I progressed through 

high school I was inspired by 

other teachers who noticed that, 

although late for rehearsals, I was 

never late for a performance. 

Now I am inspired by my latest 

teacher, Don McKellar, our 

Concert Band’s conductor. 

Don is a retired music professor 

form Western University and has 

contributed greatly to the music 

scene in London and the province. 

On occasion, George cleans up well for 

formal events. But, one of a Hillbilly’s 

greatest fears is to be caught in new 

formal wear. 

Director of Mocha’s Concert Band receives international recognition 

We are now proud to announce 

that Don will be honored this 

June with a ceremony in Toronto 

for his contributions to music 

and the influence on hundreds of 

musicians across Canada. 

Don will be inducted into Lambda 

Iota (Ontario) chapter of Phi 

Beta Mu, the International 

Bandmasters Fraternity. This 

prestigious fraternity has been in 

existence since its inception in 

Texas in 1938. 

Congratulations Don on receiving 

this well-deserved honour and for 

improving our concert band while 

being my most recent teacher.

presented Noble Harvey Granger with a 

100 million dollar certificate for all the 

dedication and help that Harvey has 

given to the Pop Can unit for the past 

ten years.

The Brantford Shrine Club had the pleasure of University of Toronto 

graduate students in the Museum studies program attend our March 

general meeting to discuss Tip of the Hat: Community, Identity and 

Culture in Brant County. They brought with them pictures of an old 

style Fez that was donated to the local museum. Noble Ray Bamsey 

loaned to the project a similar Fez from the early 50’s that had 

been worn by one of our past presidents, Noble Clark Gothard. We 

showed them pictures of past potentates from Brantford Shrine 

Club and provided them a collective recap of our knowledge on 

the Shriner’s Fez. They were impressed with the $100 Million Dollar 

pin and noticed that every member seemed to have one. The 

researchers congratulated the Shrine organization for the good 

work and thanked us for providing them with information on the 

Shriner’s Fez. They took several pictures of members wearing 

their Fez and were amazed with all the different Shrine units 

represented on the Fez.

The Pal Mocha Shrine club 

held their annual Ladies night 

and installation of the incoming 

officers on April 15,2013. The 

night was well attended with 61 

nobles,ladies,widows and Divan 

enjoying a delicious roast beef 

dinner and homemade desserts. 

The ladies were presented with, 

daffodil cancer pins and a basket 

of sweets to be enjoyed.

The Aylmer Shriners donated two bowling ramps to Cy’s 

Bowling Lanes so handicap children can compete like any 

other able bodied kids in the YBC Bowling league. They are

WATERLOO SHRINE Club 

Earth Day Recycling Event 

The Waterloo Shrine Club hosted 

their first ever, Earth Day Green 

Recycling Event on Saturday, 

April 6th. This was a free 

electronic waste collection event 

for the community. Returnable 

wine, liquor and beer bottles, 

and aluminum cans were also 

accepted. The recycling company 

Greentec supplied the collection 

bin and paid the club for all the 

electronic waste that was received. 

Noble Ross Maclean spearheaded 

this endeavour, assisted by other 

members of the club and several 

students from Waterloo Collegiate 

Institute and Huron Heights 

Secondary School. 

Noble Maclean stated, “We had 

a very good response from the 

community and the club will 

definitely do this again next year. 

This not only keeps hazardous 

electronic waste out of our 

landfills, it is a good example of 

a fund raising event that helps 

the community, gets students 

involved, and raises public 

awareness of the Shrine.” 

The Waterloo Shrine Club also has 

an ongoing Cell Phone Recycling 

program. In coordination with 

Greentec, the club has collection 

boxes at various businesses and 

institutions around the KW area 

and are paid for each used cell 

phone collected.

The Masons and Nobles of Chatham District took 

the initiative recently in an attempt to 

• EDUCATE the general public and young men 

about the Masonic fraternity. 

• STIMULATE interest in what we do. 

• REJUVENATE our activities in the public eye. 

• CELEBRATE programmes, Jeremy Gabriel, 

Ahcom sponsored children. 

• CULTIVATE and develop to a greater extent the 

image of ALL Masonic bodies. 

• MOTIVATE young men to continue our 

tremendous legacy. 

• ACCOMMODATE and make use of the time of 

young family men. 

• ILLUSTRATE we can work together for a purpose. 

• GENERATE a greater feeling of brotherhood. 

• WE ANTICIPATE masons of all levels 

participating. 

• WE APPRECIATE your personal attention and 

attendance. 

We put together a MASONIC SHRINE 

SHOWCASE. We rented the Chatham St. Clair 

Capitol Theatre on Saturday, April 13. This was a 

first class facility for both presenters and audience. 

We intended to have a programme starting at 1:00 

in the afternoon until 4:00 involving many aspects 

of masonry and the Shrine. Admission was free with 

donations accepted. It is not a fund raiser but a public 

relations effort. 

Shrine Units were invited to help by making this a 

blueprint for future SHOWCASES by providing: 

SHRINE UNITS and CLUBS 

1. Parts of your unit for display in parking spaces. 

2. Description of history and activities of your unit. 

3. Your meeting times. 

4. How to contact your unit for information. 

MASONIC LODGES 

1. A performance/explanation of approximately 

20 minutes. 

2. 20 minute segments have been allotted from 

1:30 to 4:00 

3. Breaks have been scheduled for circulation and 

audience movement. 

4. Bands are most welcome for stand still 

performances. 

We had to schedule this date for the availability of the 

facility and the Shrine Patient Ambassador Jeremy 

Gabriel. We hope this activity will become a stepping 

stone not a road block. 

Worth the time. Worth the travel. 

Worth the effort. 

We acknowledge the support of the District Deputy 

Grand Master, the Potentate of MOCHA Shriners, 

the President of AHCOM Shrine Club, the Members 

of AHCOM Shrine Club, the financial support of 

Moramos Shrine Club, The individuals of Units and 

Clubs that supported the idea of doing something 

positive for Membership and Public Relations. 

We established a VISION committee 

(Very Interested Shriners Identifying Our Needs) 

This committee met and decided to go forward 

quickly while the iron was hot and enthusiasm 

could be generated rather than shelved to be done 

later. Communication through electronic media and 

personal visitations to district lodges explaining our 

purpose and to act posthaste was commenced. Teams 

attended lodge meetings to present and explain 

purpose for the benefit of all Masonic bodies. We 

requested active support from the grass root level. 

We contacted, through various media, the Clubs 

and Units of MOCHA in the area requesting their 

support to take part in displaying their specific 

contribution to the Shrine. 

We were happy with those who responded positively, 

and felt that the rest missed a great opportunity 

to participate. We were able to contact a Unit of 

Elf Khurafeh Shriners of Saginaw, Michigan and 

borrow two of their Tall Unit figures which were well 

received. 

We invited the Membership Committee of Mocha, 

the Public Relations committee, the Daughters of 

the Nile, DeMolay, St. John’s Lodge #9 Prince Hall 

Masons to take part in the Day’s activities. 

We advertised through all the media available, 

newspapers, paid radio and newspaper ads, invited 

to radio talk shows, poster media, personal cards of 

explanation and invitation to the day’s activities. 

We have had a meeting re the accomplishments and 

the shortfalls of the day and will be addressing the 

concerns that have arisen.

both the Spring and Fall Ceremonial, this would mean 

84 new Nobles in Mocha! The Units and Shrine Clubs 

in a particular area should take Noble Chris Bradley 

(Waterloo Shrine Club) up on the Blue Buddy Challenge!

When you are at Lodge, remember it is as simple as 

asking the question to your fellow brethren ‘Have you 

considered joining the Shrine?’. Don’t wait for them to 

ask you – ask them! 

You should soon each see the Be A Shriner Now logo 

in your Lodge summons. We have the support of our 

Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother Garry Dowling 

who along with the Potentates of Mocha, Tunis and 

Rameses signed a letter being sent to all District Deputy 

Grand Masters. This letter asks them to communicate to 

all the Lodge Secretaries in their District information 

about Be A Shriner Now that can be put into their Lodge 

summons. 

The Membership Committee is looking forward to 

working with our new Public Relations Chairman, 

Noble Jeff Smith in getting the Be A Shriner Now logo 

and information out into the public and increasing the 

visibility of our Shrine in our community.

Shriners Hospitals for Children® in proud to announce 

a contract has officially been signed with SNC-Lavalin, 

stating that it has been chosen as construction manager 

for the new hospital project in Montréal. Working 

closely with Shriners Hospitals for Children, and 

Shriners Hospitals for Children – Canada leadership, 

SNC-Lavalin’s responsibilities include the procurement, 

installation and commissioning of medical equipment. 

“We are about to make history. We are happy to 

announce that the project is proceeding as planned and 

excavation work will begin shortly” announced Jerry 

Gantt, Member of the Boards of Directors for Shriners 

International and Shriners Hospitals for Children and 

Liaison for the Montreal hospital construction project. 

The new 207 000 square foot hospital will feature 8 

floors, 2 below ground and 6 above. Our patients and 

families will benefit from 22 single patient rooms, 

meeting all the highest standards for infection control. 

We have planned for several areas dedicated to families. 

There will be 4 operating rooms, which is double from 

our current facility. The new hospital will also include 

state of the art technology for teaching as well as 

expanded space dedicated to basic and clinical research. 

These new facilities will allow our specialists to 

diagnose and treat even more children with complex 

orthopaedic conditions coming to us from communities 

across Canada. We will be able to expand our research 

laboratories and enhance our clinical care activities in 

order to develop further tailored treatments. The new 

hospital environment will be focused on families with 

the additional family rooms on each level, increased 

space allotted to rehabilitation and ambulatory care 

services, day treatment and day surgery centers. 

Lavalin (TSX: SNC) is pleased to announce that it has 

officially signed a contract with Shriners Hospitals for 

Children for the construction of its new Montreal hospital, 

including the procurement, installation and commissioning 

of medical equipment. The new hospital will replace the 

existing Shriners Hospital in Montreal. 

Officially known as Shriners Hospitals for Children® – 

Canada, the hospital will have eight stories, and be linked 

to the new Montreal Children’s Hospital located at the 

McGill University Health Centre’s Glen site, allowing 

the two facilities to share services. It will have 22 singlepatient 

rooms, four operating rooms, a basic research and 

new clinical investigation unit, ambulatory care services 

and rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy and 

occupational therapy. The new building will be more than 

twice the size of the existing facility, with a surface area of 

approximately 20,500 square metres. 

“We are very pleased to have been awarded a third key 

project in Quebec’s health care sector,” said Charles Chebl, 

Executive Vice-President, SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. “This 

state-of-the-art health care facility will be a true model of 

excellence in pediatric orthopedics.” 

SNC-Lavalin provided structural engineering, civil 

engineering and pre-construction services for the project 

following an early services agreement between SNC- 

Lavalin and Shriners in May of 2011. Construction will 

begin in April 2013, and the project is expected to be 

completed in the fall of 2015.

construction groups in the world and a major player in 

the ownership of infrastructure, and in the provision of 

operations and maintenance services. Founded in 1911,

The world is a fabulous place for Kierstyn in the 

care of Shriners. The amount of care Kierstyn and 

myself have received is endless. 

Who knew a scare of bone disorder can become such 

an humbling experience for me. The feeling that there 

is a solution to Kierstyn’s extremely rare bone disorder. 

Our first approach by Shriner Grant Fotheringham to 

Shriner Richard in Kitchener. Thank you, I feel isn’t 

enough. Our Shrine Circus experiences have been so 

much fun! Kierstyn involvement with the circus, her 

eyes twinkle with love and laughter and secure to any 

man in “a red hat with sparkles, its beautiful!” as she 

says at three years old! 

From our care of travel by office assistance at Mocha in 

London (Jody Axford), to our stay in Montreal. Support 

from (Audra Smith) for our travels from the hotel to 

Shriner Hospital in Montreal. To the “best” Surgeon 

(Dr. Hamdy assistant Mario Rinaldi) orthopedic brace 

makers... and the social workers in Montreal. 

I am over the top comfortable knowing Kierstyn is in 

professional and educated care. We have a long road 

ahead but it is an easy one with Shriners by our side.

Dear Fellow Nobles, 

Greetings from the leadership of 

Shriners International and Shriners 

Hospitals for Children. We thank 

you for all your efforts to promote 

your temples, Shrine clubs, units, and 

Shriners Hospitals for Children®. 

The 139th Imperial Session is right around the corner 

- June 30th through July 4th. We hope the voting 

representatives will be prepared to make decisions on 

the various legislation changes being introduced for the 

Iowa and Colorado Corporations. 

Appropriately, the session will begin with a church 

service on Sunday at 1 p.m. followed by the public 

opening ceremony at 3 p.m. 

There will be a night parade on Monday, July 1st 

stepping off at 7 p.m. The Shrine Clowns and Shrine 

Clown Ladies will lead the parade in hopes of setting 

a world record of 851 clowns in a parade! In order to 

comply with current bylaws the clowns and clown ladies 

will be ahead of the Color Guard, and this will be the 

called a Civic parade! 

First Lady Jan 

has planned an 

extraordinary luncheon 

for the ladies featuring 

a Broadway entertainer. 

The representatives 

evening will be filled 

with lots of FUN and 

a variety of music. You 

just might be a part of

We thank the various ladies groups – the Daughters of 

the Nile, Ladies Oriental Shrine and the Shrine Guilds 

of America – for the millions of dollars they raise for

activities legislation is being proposed from SBANA for 

a Shrine bylaws revision to allow ladies to participate 

with performing units/clubs (Bands) with the approval
