ACADEMY CONVERSION: THE GOVERNORS VOTE
The governors are grateful to all the respondents for the many considered views we received. The
governors do not take this decision lightly. We are keenly aware that with the coming budget
constraints, the school may face significant cuts, and these may be made worse by our collective
decision to reject academy status for the present. While we intend to review this decision over the
next years and as developments unfold, we also hope the school community will recognise its collective
responsibility to support the school through what may be a difficult time. One respondent to the
consultation wrote, "We need to draw on the committed, able, diverse community of our school.
Creative, broad thinking needs to be employed to manage the challenges we will face." It is in the spirit
of this kind of thinking that we hope we will all support Sudbourne's management and staff to continue
their outstanding work. We look forward to your continuing support and input.
KIDS CITY
If you would like your child to attend Kids City next term and would like to secure a place for your
child then you will be able to sign up on Monday 26th March 2012 in the Junior Hall at 8.30am.
Please book early to avoid any disappointment as limited places are available. All documentation and
booking forms, with correct contact details, must be completed and returned in the first week of the
new term. This is in case of any emergency and we need to contact you. I would also like to remind
parents/carers that if alternative arrangements have been made for collection, they please notify
Hugh Howe, Centre Manager, Heather St Aime, Deputy Centre Manager or Anne / Briony in the school
office.
CONGRATULATIONS TO TOM WILKINSON!
Ex-Sudbourne pupil Tom Wilkinson (brother of Ellen in Year 6), now at Lambeth Academy has achieved
an A* in GCSE Additional Maths – at just 12 years old, he is in Year 8.
Kevin Clucas, Director of Learning for Maths at Lambeth Academy said ‘ This is a fantastic
achievement for Tom … Additional Maths is a harder paper than ordinary GCSE Maths, because it
requires thinking skills. It is about using and applying knowledge rather than doing sums.’
Tom studied for this exam as part of Lambeth Academy’s Gifted and Talented Maths Club, he is also
studying GCSE Statistics and will sit that paper in the summer.
SUDBOURNE SHIRT APPEAL!
We urgently need your old shirts - adult sized T shirts, short sleeved shirts, long sleeved shirts - any
old shirts that we can use as overalls!
We love baking and painting and generally having fun in our lessons.
We don't love getting paint and flour on our smart uniforms.
Please deposit your old shirts in the box located in the corridor beside the School Office.
