BOOKHAM RIFLE CLUB
HOLIDAY COURSE
FOR 12 TO 18 YEAR OLDS
MONDAY 12th – FRIDAY16th AUGUST
10am – 4pm

A fantastic week of air rifle, air pistol and archery at
Bookham Rifle Club –aHoliday Course for 12 to 18 year olds –
between August 12th and 16th inclusive.
The course will held in Leatherhead on The Club’s ranges
at Thorncroft Drive from 10am to 4pm.
The fee for the week is only £175 – discounted to £150
for applications received before 30th June 2013.
Places can be secured with a non-refundable* cheque
of £50 per applicant.
A 10% discount is offered to brothers and sisters of
the same family and a 20% discount for Bookham Rifle Club
Juniors and children of Club members.
*In the event of the course being over subscribed
your cheque will be returned.
Shooting, in all its forms, is one of
the UK's most popular sports.
Target shooting is equally appropriate for boys and girls.
It has recently seen a huge rise in popularity –
particularly amongst girls – following
Samantha Murray's superb performance
in air pistol that led to her silver medal success in
the modern pentathlon at the London Olympics.
The course is equally appropriate for
beginners, for experienced shooters, and
for those taking their Duke of Edinburgh's
Award. Participants will be divided into
groups by age and experience.
We anticipate that roughly half will be
beginners and that there will be equal
numbers of girls and boys. Target shooting,
like other sports, is a wonderful way to
build self-confidence, self-discipline, friendships
and team-working skills.
And it's a lot of fun!
The course will be run by instructors
certified by the National Smallbore Rifle
Association, shooting's governing body. All
have current CRB checks and regularly
coach young people.
It will take place at Bookham Rifle Club,
which is a registered charity and is celebrating
its 70th year, at the Thorncroft Ranges
just outside Leatherhead town centre.
What should participants expect?
The five day course includes a day's
archery, and four days training in air pistol
and air rifle. It builds from a get-to-knowyou
session and safety briefing to several
hours shooting each day, including the
exciting rapid fire air pistol that is a key part
of the modern pentathlon.
What will they get out of it?
It will be a lot of fun, but importantly it
will also assist in promoting self-confidence,
self-discipline, team-work and friendship.
Beginners will find it an easy and gentle
introduction to the sport whilst more experienced
shooters will benefit from several
hours of coaching each day.
What will they need to bring?
Comfortable clothing, including a cap
with a peak (a baseball cap is ideal) a
packed lunch and drink.
Though we shoot from a covered area
the ranges themselves are open, so a waterproof
jacket of some sort will be needed if
the weather is poor.
All equipment is supplied by Bookham
Rifle Club, including pellets. If the family
has an air pistol or air rifle they are
welcome to use it during the course, but
parents must note that it is illegal for a
person aged under 18 to carry an air rifle
or pistol in a public place, so it must remain
under parental control until handed over
to the course instructor.
How to apply
Fill in the application form overleaf and
post it to us with a deposit cheque for
£50.00. We have to limit numbers, and
earlier events have been over-subscribed.
Applications will therefore be accepted on
a strict first-come first-served basis so
please apply early to avoid disappointment.
We suggest that you do not tell your
child they have a place until it is confirmed.
