Future targets<br />

lost time injury frequency in 2005<br />

compared to <strong>2004</strong>.<br />

• Establish additional key performance<br />

indicators related to social and<br />

ethical issues during 2005.<br />

• Achieve at least 99% compliance<br />

with formal regulatory emission limits<br />

for both emissions to air and releases<br />

to water by the end of 2005.<br />

• Achieve 100% certification to<br />

ISO 14001 for all Corus European<br />

manufacturing sites (excluding<br />

interim mergers and acquisitions<br />

and sites with fewer than 50<br />

employees) by the middle of 2006.<br />

• Reduce total energy consumption<br />

in the UK by 11.5% compared to<br />

1997, by 2010 and become one<br />

of the world’s top steelmakers<br />

and primary aluminium producers<br />

(in the comparable technology<br />

class) in terms of energy use in<br />

the Netherlands by 2012.<br />

• Identify and assess our contribution<br />

to ambient air concentrations of fine<br />

and ultrafine dust particles (PM2.5s<br />

and PM0.1s) and evaluate options<br />

for improvement where necessary<br />

by the end of 2006.<br />

• Reduce the number of complaints<br />

from the public related to our<br />

activities by 10% compared to<br />

2003 by the end of 2006.<br />

• Reduce waste to landfill by 10%<br />

from 2003 levels by the end of 2005.<br />

• Increase the steel packaging<br />

recycling rate in the UK to 54%<br />

by 2008 (compared with 46% in<br />

<strong>2004</strong>) and continue to work with<br />

organisations such as Nederland<br />

Schoon to reduce litter from<br />

packaging in the Netherlands.<br />

• Launch an environmental intranet<br />

site as a means of improving the<br />

dissemination of environmental good<br />

practices across Corus business<br />

units and manufacturing sites.<br />
