The Cathedral College is
built on the rich Catholic
education tradition that was
forged by faith, love, hard
work and wisdom of our early
co‐founders.
In 1991, two of Central
Queensland’s oldest
and proudest Colleges,
St Joseph’s Christian
Brothers College for boys,
and Sisters of Mercy’s
Range College for girls
united to become The
Cathedral College.
The Cathedral College is
a Catholic co-educational
secondary day and boarding
college. The Day campus
is positioned alongside the
magnificent St Joseph’s
Cathedral in William Street
and located a short distance
from the college is the Boys
residential in Upper Dawson
Road. The beautifully historic
Range site that overlooks
Rockhampton and surrounds
in nearby Agnes Street is
home for The Cathedral
College Girl boarders.
Since 1991 The Cathedral
College has grown and kept
abreast of the changing times
but with the unchanging
principle that our college
exists to make a difference.
The College is proud to be
part of Catholic Education in
Rockhampton Diocese under
the auspices of the Diocesan
Catholic Education Office.

A COMMUNITY THAT
NURTURES AND CARES
The Cathedral College
provides a caring, family
environment where concern
for the particular needs
of individual students is a
feature of College life. The
care of the students is seen
as a partnership between the
College and Parents.
Providing an environment
where students feel respected
and secure is a high priority
and students are encouraged
to respect themselves and
each other and to be sensitive
to the rights and needs of
fellow students and staff.
In facilitating this environment,
students become members of
one of the six House groups -
Glover, McAuley, Rice, Quinn,
Ryan or Wallace.
The House structure
underpins many aspects
of College life. Within each
House group, students join
a Pastoral Care group which
contains several students
from each year level. A
student will belong to this
group for their 5 years at the
College. Students develop
significant attachments to
these groups as they journey
through their schooling.
Students identify closely
with their House Dean and
Pastoral Care Teacher as
significant, supportive and
approachable adults within
the school community.
The House structure
encourages students to
participate in a wide variety
of interhouse academic,
sporting, cultural, recreational
and service activities.
The College has high
expectations for student
behaviour and an emphasis
on traditional values such as
good manners.

ACADEMIC
EXCELLENCE
Across all year levels at
The Cathedral College,
students are challenged to
perform to the best of their
academic ability. We cater for
a wide range of needs in our
curriculum acknowledging
the diverse talents of our
students.
Our school-wide Literacy
Program seeks to boost
our students’ capabilities
in this vital learning area.
The College offers courses
which lead to university entry,
traineeships, apprenticeships
and the workforce.
Middle School
To assist in the transition from
primary school, all classes in
Years 8 and 9 have a Core
Teacher who will teach them
for three of their subjects. This
provides the students with
additional support to enable
them to reach their potential.
Students are exposed to a
range of other subjects that
may be studied in greater
depth in the Senior School.
Senior School
Year 10 acts as the
introduction to Senior
Schooling with students able
to choose elective courses
that are companions to those
offered in Years 11 and 12. All
Year 10 students are required
to undertake work experience
to assist in identifying their
career direction.
The College enjoys strong
linkages with CQ University,
TAFE, organisations
and companies that offer
school‐based apprenticeships
and traineeships to cater
for the diversity of student
abilities and preferences.
The College seeks to support
the gifted and talented while
ensuring that those who
struggle receive support in
their learning. Tutoring is
offered in many subjects by
members of the committed
and professional teaching staff.
The Cathedral College offers a
truly inclusive curriculum.

CO-CURRICULAR
ACTIVITIES
The spirit inherent in a College
is often a direct result of
the bonding and sense of
teamwork and community
forged by involvement in
co‐curricular activities.
Some of the most popular
sporting activities include:
netball, basketball, rugby
league, rugby union,
swimming, track and field and
cross country running. Our
students also have advanced
to district, regional, state and
even national levels in some of
these sports.
Cultural activities include
a rapidly expanding music
program offering a number of
band and choir experiences,
biennial productions and an
annual Arts Night. The College
has the privilege of hosting
the Catholic Education
Festival of Music, Diocese of
Rockhampton which attracts
schools and colleges from
around the Diocese in this
yearly musical event. The
College competes strongly in
Tournament of the Minds and
in numerous public speaking
and debating opportunities.
The Agricultural Show team
learn practical farming skills
and animal husbandry. The
subject is not only designed
for students with a rural
background, but would suit
any student with an interest
in environmental, biological or
veterinary science.
Community service activities
include contributions to many
worthy causes by way of
“hands on” assistance and
fund raising. Particularly
the College embraces and
supports the endeavours
of Caritas and their work in
developing nations.

SPIRITUAL LIFE
The spirit of Jesus Christ
forms an integral part of daily
life at The Cathedral College.
Regular prayer in Pastoral
Care groups and as a full
school community allows staff
and students time to reflect
on the presence of God in
their lives.
The College maintains a
close relationship with the
worshipping community of
St Joseph’s Cathedral in
the Parish of Rockhampton
South and important school
events and Liturgies are often
celebrated in the magnificent
Cathedral.
A student Liturgy committee
is formed each year to assist
in the organisation of Prayer
and Liturgies of the Word as
well as the monthly Saturday
evening Eucharist and the
weekly Thursday Eucharist in
the Cathedral.
The College Residential
students are encouraged to
live out the Catholic Christian
ethos through regular prayer
gatherings and Sunday liturgy.

RESIDENTIAL LIFE
First class boutique residential
facilities for both boys and
girls are provided at separate
Campuses a short distance
from the Day school. Places
at the Residentials are always
in demand as only 90 girls
and 60 boys are offered
places each year.
Boarding accommodation for
Year 10, 11 and 12 girls is
provided in Coolock House,
with senior students enjoying
single rooms. Year 10 girls
share double accommodation
in a spacious dormitory
overlooking the city. Girls in
Year 8 and 9 enjoy shared
rooms in the historic and
beautiful Genazzano building
which has recently undergone
a $2 million refurbishment in
2009. Both located on the
picturesque Athelstane Range
former site of The Range
College.
The Boys’ Residential is only
a few minutes drive from the
Day Campus. The boys are
accommodated in a variety
of room configurations from
single to twin share.
While residential life can
never replace the family
home, every effort is made
at The Cathedral College
Residentials to create a warm,
supportive and comfortable
environment where personal
growth and the forging of
lifelong friendships go hand in
hand with a disciplined study
program.
At both Residential
campuses, community
spirit is a big part of life. In
addition to the extra-curricular
activities offered by the Day
Campus, Residential students
may participate in the many
sporting and cultural activities
that Rockhampton has to
offer. Weekend activities
offered at the combined
Residential campuses include
beach trips, shopping, sport
and craft activities.
We understand that
adolescents need change
as they grow, which is
why qualified, experienced
teachers, counsellors and
residential supervisors are
involved in their care. As well
as the many new friends
our students make, there is
always an adult they can talk
to about school or personal
concerns.
Scolarest catering company
is contracted to provide
nutritious meals to both
Residentials. They provide a
wide range of healthy, fresh
and prepared food, and
special dietary requirements
can be catered for.
A number of the College
academic staff offer tutorial
sessions after hours, or
transport to private tuition can
be arranged.
The Cathedral College offers
a high quality boarding
experience and is one of the
most affordable boarding
schools in Queensland.
