Castrol Clearedge ® V6
Metalworking Fluid
Description
Castrol Clearedge ® V6 is a biostable extreme pressure soluble oil based on solvent refined
mineral oil. Castrol Clearedge ® V6 contains synthetic lubricity additives, extreme pressure
additives and corrosion inhibitors. It is based on
materials which are naturally resistant to bacterial attack.
Application
Castrol Clearedge ® V6 is designed for use in most production engineering applications. It is
le for large central systems and for smaller individual coolant sumps. Castrol Clearedge ® V6
will perform a wide range of machining operations, including milling, drilling, tapping, reaming
and broaching. It is ideal for systems where a range of operations are performed on a variety
of different metals - steels, cast irons and even difficult alloys such as stainless steel and
aluminium.
Benefits and Qualities
• Exceptional emulsion stability and bacteria resistance. Long coolant life. Ideal for large
central systems.
• Contains no nitrites or phenols. Operator and environment friendly. Good working
environment. Lower disposal costs.
• Low foaming properties. Will not cause foaming in large high speed systems. Troublefree
operation.
• Can be used on a wide range of metals and operations. Versatile. Allows product
rationalisation - one grade for all uses.
• Good corrosion protection. High quality output.
Measuring Emulsion Strength
To ensure optimum performance of the emulsion, check the emulsion strength weekly and
adjust if necessary. A quick, easy and accurate. method is by using a refractometer, such as
the Atago N10 Hand Sugar Refractometer, available from Castrol.
Method
• Zero instrument according to manufacturer’s instructions, including making allowance
for temperature variations.
• Allow coolant to circulate and then take representative sample of coolant from coolant
system, preferably from the ‘clean’ tank. Avoid picking up tramp oil. If necessary, allow
sample to stand a few minutes and remove the oil from the surface.
• Pour a large drop of coolant sample on the prism and close flap. Ensure a full film of
coolant is trapped between the flap and the prism. Hold the instrument up to the light
and take the per tage 9
• For Castrol Clearedge ® V6 the refractometer reading is the actual coolant
concentration. (This is not the case for all coolants.)
• After use rinse the refractometer flap and prism surfaces in tapwater and wipe dry.
Spillage:
Disposal:
SMALL - 20 LITRES OR LESS
Soak up on Castrol Diatomaceous Earth or similar inert oil absorbent.
Arrange for disposal through an approved facility.
LARGE - GREATER THAN 20 LITRES
Remove all sources of ignition. Increase ventilation. Evacuate all
unnecessary personnel. Wear full protective equipment and clothing to
minimise exposure. If possible contain the spill. Place inert absorbent
material such as vermiculite, sand or dirt onto spillage. Use clean nonsparking
tools to collect the material and place into a suitable labelled
container. Do not dilute material but contain. If large quantities of this
material enter the waterways contact the Environmental Protection
Authority, or your local Waste Management Authority.
Dispose of waste according to federal, E.P.A., state and local regulations.
Assure conformity with all applicable regulations.
