DESIGNED WITH SOFT TISSUE IN MIND<br />

Reducing soft tissue irritation is a key<br />

factor to fewer complications in hand fracture<br />

fixation. The designers of the plates and<br />

screws in the SBi Universal Hand System <br />

kept the function of soft tissue in mind while<br />

developing the implants and instruments.<br />

The result is an optimal system to provide<br />

low profile plates and screws without<br />

sacrificing strength or durability. These factors<br />

combine to provide your patients with early,<br />

pain-free rehabilitation.<br />

• Low profile plate and screw design<br />

minimizes tissue irritation and facilitates<br />

a-traumatic, minimally invasive technique.<br />

• Radiused plates fit the bone axially. This<br />

keeps the plate profile low once the soft<br />

tissue is closed over it, reducing soft<br />

tissue irritation.<br />

• Polished stainless steel plates have<br />

proven advantages over titanium in<br />

reducing tendon adhesion in dorsal<br />

plating and in reducing severe<br />

inflammatory response when compared<br />

to titanium and Ti6 A14V titanium alloy.


DESIGNED WITH BONE HEALING IN MIND<br />

Stability, strength, and durability of the plate/screw<br />

construct are vital to the healing of a fracture. The<br />

implants are designed to provide optimal strength<br />

while still protecting the soft tissue and vascularity.<br />

These features combine to help optimal healing<br />

of the fractured bone.<br />

• Cold worked stainless steel material provides<br />

increased strength over standard implant grade<br />

stainless steel.<br />

• Sculpted plate profiling evenly distributes stress<br />

on the plates while simplifying contouring of the<br />

plates to variable anatomy.<br />

• Reduced area “footprint” optimizes vascularity<br />

around the plate which is vital to bone healing.<br />

• Plate sculpting aids contouring in the sagittal<br />

plane where and if that is needed to improve fit of<br />

the plate to the patient's anatomy. Improved fit<br />

aids stability while optimally protecting soft tissue.<br />

fixation in poor quality bone where the standard<br />

screw has stripped the bone. This allows needed<br />

DESIGNED WITH PATIENTS,<br />

SURGEONS, AND STAFF IN MIND<br />

The system features stainless steel plates<br />

and screws for the hand and the instruments<br />

with which to implant them. The system is<br />

comprised of three self-sufficient implant<br />

and instrument modules, a K-Wire module<br />

and a general hand instrument case.<br />

• StickFIT screw heads facilitate easy<br />

removal of 2.0mm and 2.4mm screws<br />

from modules.<br />

• The screws have self-tapping flutes and<br />

a unique thread design to lower insertion<br />

torque, improving the feel of the screw.<br />

• Ergonomically designed instruments<br />

improve effectiveness and feel, while<br />

reducing fatigue.<br />

• Color coded K-Wires allow quick<br />

identification and help keep modules<br />

in order.<br />

• Color coded modules and specialized<br />

instruments facilitate easy tray organization.

INDICATIONS<br />

The SBi stainless steel Universal Hand System contains<br />

plates, screws, and K-Wires that are indicated for use in<br />

selective trauma and reconstructive procedures, and<br />

general surgery of the hand, wrist, and other small bones.<br />

CONTRA-INDICATIONS<br />

The SBi stainless steel Universal Hand System plates, screws,<br />

and K-Wires are contra-indicated for use in<br />

• Osteoporosis<br />

• Inadequate bone quantity and -quality<br />

• Foreign body sensitivity to implant material<br />

• Acute or chronic systemic or localized infections<br />

• Any medical or surgical condition precluding<br />

the potential benefit or surgery<br />

• Dependency on pharmaceutical drugs,<br />

drug abuse or alcoholism<br />

• Lack of patient cooperation<br />

• Immuno-suppression<br />

Percutaneous K-Wire placement is contraindicated in cases of:<br />

• Displaced fractures<br />

• Compressed fractures
