DESIGNED WITH SOFT TISSUE IN MIND
Reducing soft tissue irritation is a key
factor to fewer complications in hand fracture
fixation. The designers of the plates and
screws in the SBi Universal Hand System
kept the function of soft tissue in mind while
developing the implants and instruments.
The result is an optimal system to provide
low profile plates and screws without
sacrificing strength or durability. These factors
combine to provide your patients with early,
pain-free rehabilitation.
• Low profile plate and screw design
minimizes tissue irritation and facilitates
a-traumatic, minimally invasive technique.
• Radiused plates fit the bone axially. This
keeps the plate profile low once the soft
tissue is closed over it, reducing soft
tissue irritation.
• Polished stainless steel plates have
proven advantages over titanium in
reducing tendon adhesion in dorsal
plating and in reducing severe
inflammatory response when compared
to titanium and Ti6 A14V titanium alloy.

DESIGNED WITH BONE HEALING IN MIND
Stability, strength, and durability of the plate/screw
construct are vital to the healing of a fracture. The
implants are designed to provide optimal strength
while still protecting the soft tissue and vascularity.
These features combine to help optimal healing
of the fractured bone.
• Cold worked stainless steel material provides
increased strength over standard implant grade
stainless steel.

• Sculpted plate profiling evenly distributes stress
on the plates while simplifying contouring of the
plates to variable anatomy.
• Reduced area “footprint” optimizes vascularity
around the plate which is vital to bone healing.
• Plate sculpting aids contouring in the sagittal
plane where and if that is needed to improve fit of
the plate to the patient's anatomy. Improved fit
aids stability while optimally protecting soft tissue.

• Unique thread design increases holding ability
especially in poor quality bone.

• Rescue screws are provided to improve uni-cortical
fixation in poor quality bone where the standard
screw has stripped the bone. This allows needed
plate screw holes to be successfully utilized that
might otherwise be left unused.

DESIGNED WITH PATIENTS,
SURGEONS, AND STAFF IN MIND
The system features stainless steel plates
and screws for the hand and the instruments
with which to implant them. The system is
comprised of three self-sufficient implant
and instrument modules, a K-Wire module
and a general hand instrument case.
• StickFIT screw heads facilitate easy
removal of 2.0mm and 2.4mm screws
from modules.
• The screws have self-tapping flutes and
a unique thread design to lower insertion
torque, improving the feel of the screw.
• Ergonomically designed instruments
improve effectiveness and feel, while
reducing fatigue.
• Color coded K-Wires allow quick
identification and help keep modules
in order.
• Color coded modules and specialized
instruments facilitate easy tray organization.

INDICATIONS
The SBi stainless steel Universal Hand System contains
plates, screws, and K-Wires that are indicated for use in
selective trauma and reconstructive procedures, and
general surgery of the hand, wrist, and other small bones.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS
The SBi stainless steel Universal Hand System plates, screws,
and K-Wires are contra-indicated for use in
• Osteoporosis
• Inadequate bone quantity and -quality
• Foreign body sensitivity to implant material
• Acute or chronic systemic or localized infections
• Any medical or surgical condition precluding
the potential benefit or surgery
• Dependency on pharmaceutical drugs,
drug abuse or alcoholism
• Lack of patient cooperation
• Immuno-suppression
Percutaneous K-Wire placement is contraindicated in cases of:
• Displaced fractures
• Compressed fractures
