THE POLICE ASSOCIATION
The Victoria Police Branch of the Police
Federation of Australia must hold a
protected action ballot (secret ballot) to
determine whether proposed industrial
action has the support of its members.
How will this occur?
This will be a postal ballot, conducted by the
Australian Electoral Commission. You will receive
a ballot paper in the mail at the address you
have listed at the Victorian Police Branch,
Police Federation Australia.
Who can vote?
All members of the Victorian Police Branch, Police
Federation of Australia who would be subject to
the proposed enterprise agreement and have not
nominated another bargaining representative can
vote. This includes all members from constable to
commander, police reservists, police recruits and PSOs.
What if I am away, or did not receive a
ballot paper. Can I still vote?
If you are away from your nominated address,
or did not receive a ballot paper by 24 May, you need
to let the Australian Electoral Commission know as
soon as possible. Contact the AEC’s returning officer
on 9285 7145.
Why should I vote?
It is essential that each and every member casts a
vote. Fair Work Australia legislation requires 50% +
1 of all members to return a vote for our proposed
industrial action to be valid. This means that we must
all take the few moments to send our ballot paper off.
How should I vote?
The ballot paper allows you to tick yes or no to
proposed industrial action. A YES 4 tick supports
the EBA campaign, and paves the way for protected
industrial action.
What will I be asked to vote on?
Voters in the ballot will be asked to respond YES/NO
to proposed industrial action. There are 8 proposed
industrial actions in our industrial action strategy.
