Prof. Anastakis teaches “The Car in History,” a popular fourth-year History/Canadian Studies course that looks
at business, culture, society and the automobile in North America.“Students love this course and the kind of
history it provides because they can relate to it,” he says.“They are individually affected by the automobile, just
as wider society is. Just as importantly, the engaging and insightful discussions that students have in the course
have provided me with perspectives that I utilize in my own research. This is the kind of integrative teaching
MathemaTICs (B.Sc.)
Mathematics is the exploration of abstract mental universes
and the application of pure reason; it involves logic, not just
numbers. You will learn about the fundamental structure of the
universe and the limits of human reason. Develop a new way
of looking at flowers and plants by learning about the systems
and structures that underpin all of nature. More than just a
study of numbers, equations and problems, mathematics will
open new perspectives to you that you never dreamed possible.
Mathematics is a profound exploration of the cosmos and an
adventure of the human spirit.
Why Trent?
Explore your interests in both pure and applied mathematics, probability theory,
finance and statistics
MathemaTICal eConomICs (B.Sc.)
The study of Mathematical Economics helps us understand
complex and ever-changing economic dilemmas by examining
the production and dissemination of scarce resources. You will
learn how to analyze games of strategy, bargaining and auctions
(game theory), how to make sense of complex economic
data (econometrics), how to maximize profit and minimize
costs (optimization) and how to maximize happiness (welfare
economics). This program combines core courses in Economics
with classes in differential equations, probability theory,
optimization theory, game theory, mathematical finance and
advanced statistical methods.
Why Trent?
MathemaTICal PhysICs (B.Sc.)
An understanding of Mathematical Physics is essential in
understanding many topics from celestial mechanics to the issue
of global climate change. You will study differential equations,
probability theory, complex analysis, differential geometry,
advanced numerical methods and advanced techniques of
applied mathematics. Physics is the most fundamental of
the natural sciences, and mathematics is the language of
physics. This program develops, in parallel, experience with the
central theoretical frame-works of physics and facility with the
mathematical methods which form the foundation and tools of
physics.
Why Trent?
Choose from courses focused on astrophysics, condensed matter physics,
relativity and differential geometry
Gain knowledge and skills ideal for graduate studies in theoretical physics
