Grade Prep A: Mason Bayley- for working at home to

fluency and expression when reading!
Grade 5F: Tayden Monigatti – for working really hard on

REPORT WRITING DAY
On Tuesday 11 th June the school will be closed for a Report
Writing Day. This is a pupil free day and students will not
be required at school.
BOOK CLUB
Book Club brochures have been sent home with the
children. Please have orders and money back at school by
next Wednesday 29 th May.

Each term we will focus on one of these values as part of
our whole school approach to wellbeing. In Term 2 our
focus is on Respect.
Fundraising Target
This year the fundraising committee decided to set a goal to
aim for. After consulting with teachers a decision was made
to try and raise enough money to purchase an Apple iPad for
each class. The graphic below will be displayed at the
school to let everyone know how we are going. So far
approximately $900 dollars has been raised from our Easter
Egg Competition, Cake Stall and Mother’s Day Raffle. A
number of fundraising activities have been planned for the
rest of the year to help us reach this goal including:
A Chocolate Drive at the end of this term.
A Pie Drive
A Harness Racing Night on 1 st October
A Car Boot Sale
Voting Day Food Stalls
Cake Stalls (One per Term)
Caledonian Raffles once per month
We would like to thank everyone for their support in helping
us to reach our goal.

Interested children can pick up a form from the office.
Children will be given a snack straight after school. Please
make sure that you pick your child up at 4.30pm.

Woolworths Earn & Learn.
When you shop at Safeway/Woolworths you can collect
Woolworths Earn & Learn points from the checkout
operator and place them on a points sheet. There’ll be one
point for every $10 spent (excluding liquor, tobacco and gift
cards). Once completed, you can place your Points Sheet in
the collection box in the undercover area, either at your
school or at your local Woolworths. The program runs until
9 th June.

COMMUNITY NEWS.
ECHUCA MOAMA UNITING CHURCH.
Active After Schools Program are running sessions between
3.30 and 4.30 on Monday and Wednesday.
Activities include:

‘Trailblazers’ – “Sunday School” at Echuca Moama Uniting
Church. Term 2 Theme:- “Walk in my shoes – The journey of
a Refugee” held on 19 th /26 th May and 2 nd June. Children will
be involved in a session for one hour and may be dropped off
at 10am and collected at 11am. And 16 th June – 10am with a
presentation in church. We will be building, making,
constructing, cooking, and designing things that are used by
many people when they live as a refugee. For RSVP please

ECHUCA WEST PS GRADE REPORTS
Prep A: This week we leave the underwater theme and sail
the seas as Pirates. We have completed some terrific work
around the Aquarium and the Preps have a folio full of
wonderful writing and stories. Next Friday we will have a
dress up Pirate day for Prep/One and Two. More
information will follow in the Home School Journal. Also in
the Home School Journal earlier this week was a note
regarding the next cake stall on Wednesday May 29th. It is
Prep/One and Two parents turn to supply cakes and goodies
for this stall and we hope you can all support this stall if you
are able. There is a pile of jumpers in the Prep room that
need claiming as Mount Jumperana is about to topple!
We have been concentrating on our handwriting and
recognising familiar words. In Maths we have created and
recorded addition stories. We looked at location words and
developed dance routines that incorporated these words and
movements. We have been concentrating on teen numbers
and are getting very fast at our game of quick draw. We are
also working out number order, looking for the biggest and
smallest numbers and numbers in between. Keep up the
good work at home when hearing reading and enjoy your
weekend.
Grade 1B: We have been hard at work as usual in the Grade
1 room this week. Our classroom is always very busy in the
morning with lots of parents coming in to help and listen to
us read. We have finished publishing our Aquarium
recounts and they are up on display, along with a very
colourful poster we created of amazing 3D sea creatures.
We are enjoying our pirate theme. We made very cool pirate
figures using photos of our own faces with fierce
expressions and we have been reading a funny pirate story
called Crew Stew. We enjoyed acting out the story and
finding things to put in the stew! We even made up our own
recipes for stew; however they might not be tasty, as some of
the ingredients were very unusual! In Maths we have been
practising counting and looking at patterns on the number
board. We looked at how addition and subtraction can be
linked through fact families. In Science we found out that
sound can travel up a string and we had lots of fun playing
with string telephones. On Monday we look forward to
welcoming a new student, Aliyah, to our class. We can’t
wait for Pirate Day next week when we will get a chance to
dress up as pirates! Have a great weekend, everyone.

It was enjoyable and there are certainly quite a few bubble gum
blowers in Grade 2! Miss King-Jones has also joined our grade
as a Student Teacher and will be working with us and teaching
some lessons for the next three weeks! Keep up the great

Grade 3D & Grade 4E: Are on Camp at Sovereign Hill having
a fantastic time. We look forward to hearing all about it next
week.
Grade 5F: This week has been awesome in grade 5 and our
class has been as busy as a bee. Did you know that ‘as busy as
a bee’ is a simile? We’ve been looking at similes and
metaphors in Literacy this week. We have found them a bit
tricky, but Miss Fehring is very impressed with our efforts.
During Writing we started a poetry unit, with our first focus
being simile poems. We also wrote narratives, with many of us
writing about pirates. In Maths this week we have continued
with the chance and data topic, with a big focus on collecting
and presenting data. We have created pie charts, bar graphs
and line graphs, as well as learning about types of data. In P.E
we have been practising our jump rope for heart routines. We
are very close to having Earn & Learn completely set up, and
can’t wait to be fully in the swing of things. Have a great

Grade 6G: This week in Maths we have continued to look at the
likelihood of event happening. We have also put these activities
in order between certain and impossible. Last week’s round of
football made some of our statements change from the previous
week. Earn and Learn is developing with pays almost ready to
be given out. We are also looking for as many big boxes as
possible, so if you have any feel free to drop them into the
grade 5/6 rooms. All big boxes would be greatly appreciated.
During Writing we have written narratives and created songs.
We have a very creative class who really love to perform.
Grade 2C: Arrrgghhh.. We’ve got our best pirate voices
happening in Grade 2 this week as we move into a short Pirate
theme! Captain Red Beard has certainly influenced our
reading. I’m sure you would have heard our pirate expression
