After the case study the student is capable to chose the right logistic<br />

units for transporting and distributing against optimum costs within an<br />

unimodal or multimodal network.<br />

Within the case study the following items are used:<br />

Standardization and normalization<br />

Function and qualities of the following logistic units like package<br />

units, loading units, transport units and mode of transport units.<br />

Development and trends within the logistic units<br />

The influence of the choice on the cost structure and sustainable<br />

management<br />

Knowledge of mechanical and climatological load of logistic units<br />

during physical distribution and securing of cargo<br />

Perishable transport<br />

Rules and regulations about Dangerous Goods related to<br />

packages and transport.<br />

The (dis)advantages of the different modes of transport.<br />

First acquaintance with the various modes of transport and the<br />

differences between the modes of transport.<br />

A sustainable composition of transport chains by using more<br />

clean fuels, more efficient engines and more clean modes of<br />

transport (to be documented in a Co2 footprint).<br />
