My Name is Dennis Engel and I’m a<br />
Maastricht (NL) based creative. Since<br />
2010 I’m specializing in visual communications<br />
with a main focus on graphic design.<br />
I love to collaborate with creatives, who<br />
come from all kinds of backgrounds like:<br />
photography, video production, product<br />
design, skateboarding, fashion design, graffiti<br />
and other backgrounds. I believe that<br />
an interdisciplinary work environment<br />
offers a lot more design solutions, than<br />
limiting myself on a curtain design field.<br />
My recent works include a design<br />
exhibition in the European Parliament<br />
in Brussels, a photography publication in<br />
The Guardian in London and an interdisciplinary<br />
design project for the city of<br />
Maastricht. I am currently studying visual<br />
communication / graphic design at the<br />
Academy of Media Design and Technology<br />
in Maastricht.<br />

DESIGN COMPETITION<br />
FAB - the First Artist Bank, is the first bank in the world created<br />
for non-bank lovers. I created a prototype logo for the bank, to<br />
offer as a key piece of artwork to be used as part of its brand,<br />
on signage, bank cards, letterheads, mobile app, and website.<br />

GREENPEACE<br />
Following a big Greenpeace campaign in 2000 McDonald’s was<br />
one of the first companies to stop using chicken meat that has<br />
been produced with genetically-modified animal feed. But this<br />
year McDonald’s Germany took a U-turn, deciding it is cheaper<br />
to use GM soya for feeding the animals. I created a prototype<br />
campaign for greenpeace to offer as a key piece of artwork to be<br />
used as part of it’s “Against Gen- Food” campaign.<br />

INVITATIONS<br />
In December 2013 - I designed some screen printed cards for<br />
Dentaltechnik Sommer GmbH. André Sommer celebrated<br />
his examination for the master’s certificate. He asked me to<br />
design some invitations for his master celebration. My idea was<br />
to create some handcrafted prints to underline the traditional<br />
craftsmanship used in dental technics.<br />

Helveticontra is a display typeface based<br />
on Helvetica Neue 65 Medium Std. My<br />
idea was to recreate Helvetica and make<br />
a statement about it’s perfection. Improving<br />
Helvetica is like trying to make a<br />
circle more round. It’s just not possible.<br />
So i recerated Helvetica with it’s own<br />
characteristics. The result is a typeface<br />
that broke nearly every rule of Helvetica’s<br />
perfection.<br />

Throughout history art has allowed people<br />
to explore politics in unconventional<br />
ways by providing a different perspective,<br />
it’s inclusive and has an uncanny ability<br />
to reach a wide audience of those even<br />
furthest away from the issues that matter<br />
to them. With this in mind, “bite the ballot”<br />
asked European citizens to portray,<br />
“What does it mean to be European in<br />
2014?” The competition was open to<br />
citizens of every member state and aimed<br />
to inspire and engage eligible voters<br />
ahead of the European Parliamentary<br />
elections. The Exhibition hosted 20 different<br />
Artist from all over Europe in the<br />
European Parliament. Catherine Bearder<br />
- MEP officially supported this event.<br />
