5K Training Tips
It is always exciting to see runners achieve a new level of accomplishment
within the sport. One of the best ways of achieving your running goals--
whether it is a longer distance or new personal best--is through training.
When training for a 5K, or 3.1 mile race, it is important to stay safe, be
comfortable, set goals, and have fun.
November is both National Running Safety Month and the end of daylight
savings time. As days become shorter, outdoor safety in late afternoons
becomes a concern. Make sure to have reflective clothing and shoes, or a
flashing light. If running further, take water with you using a handheld bottle
or small waist water bottles.
While training, you may be running more miles per week or at a faster pace
than normal. It is important to have the proper fitting footwear to keep
injuries from you and your 5K. Choose a specialty running store with
extensive products, knowledge and allows you to test it out, like Fit2Run,
with indoor track and treadmills.
Running is a mental sport. That said, Fit2Run advises runners to train with
a group. You must decide whether your support and accountability will
come from a coach and fellow runners, or family and friends, who know
your set goals.
Last but not least, Have FUN! Listen to music if you like. Chat with friends
while you run. Be sure to listen to your body and slow down or take breaks
when necessary. You can't push yourself to a new personal best time or
distance if you're out with an injury on race day.
Our coaches provide individualized instruction through training plans, while
keeping a positive social atmosphere with runners, grouped by ability. We
are excited to get to know you personally, athletically, and bond throughout
your progression as you get fit to run with Fit2Run-The Runner's
Superstore.
