Course Objectives:<br />

1. Introduction to fundamental electronic devices <strong>and</strong> their applications using<br />

hardware <strong>and</strong> Proteus 6 Pr<strong>of</strong>essional s<strong>of</strong>tware<br />

2. The electronic devices taught include PN junction diodes, zener diodes,<br />

LEDs, photodiodes, BJTs, phototransistor, opto-coupler <strong>and</strong> MOSFETs<br />

3. The course also includes a simple end semester project <strong>of</strong> designing a simple<br />

DC power supply<br />

Expected Outcomes:<br />

1. Underst<strong>and</strong> the theory <strong>and</strong> applications <strong>of</strong> semiconductor diodes or PN<br />

junction diodes<br />

2. Underst<strong>and</strong> the theory <strong>and</strong> applications <strong>of</strong> special purpose diodes e.g Zener<br />

diode, LEDs <strong>and</strong> photodiodes<br />

3. Underst<strong>and</strong> the biasing techniques <strong>of</strong> BJTs<br />

4. Underst<strong>and</strong> the working <strong>and</strong> use <strong>of</strong> phototransistor <strong>and</strong> opto-coupler<br />

5. Underst<strong>and</strong> the drain characteristics <strong>of</strong> MOSFETs<br />

6. Be able to simulate simple electronic circuits using Proteus 6 Pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
