■ UK student-athletes make lives better through<br />

community service; UK athletes contributed<br />

more than 1,700 hours <strong>of</strong> volunteer community<br />

service in 2007-08.<br />

■ UK’s research expenditures increased to a<br />

record-high $324 million last year, helping to<br />

propel UK into the nation’s top 25 public<br />

research universities<br />

■ The Commonwealth Collaboratives outreach<br />

program has 36 projects focused on solving<br />

problems and changing the lives <strong>of</strong> people<br />

in <strong>Kentucky</strong><br />

■ The UK Chandler Hospital is a Level I<br />

Trauma Center, meaning that UK cares for<br />

the most critically injured and ill patients in<br />

UK’s commitment to its student-athletes is evident in the<br />

support personnel and resources provided through the<br />

Ohio Casualty Center for Academic & Tutorial<br />

Services (<strong>CATS</strong>).<br />

T H E F A C T S A B O U T C AT S<br />

■ <strong>Kentucky</strong> was the first school in the nation to<br />

open an academic center dedicated exclusively<br />

to student-athletes<br />

■ <strong>Kentucky</strong> has won the Academic Achievement<br />

Award for having the nation’s highest<br />

graduation rate<br />

■ Since 1984, UK has placed 380 players on the<br />

Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll,<br />

more than any other league school<br />

■ The current <strong>CATS</strong> was built at a cost <strong>of</strong> $2.4<br />

million and includes:<br />

■ Spacious study areas and tutoring rooms<br />

■ 20,000 square feet <strong>of</strong> space<br />

A friendly, vibrant city located in the famous Bluegrass<br />

region <strong>of</strong> Central <strong>Kentucky</strong>, Lexington is the perfect<br />

college town.<br />
