TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEMS<br />

Degree course: Telecommunication Systems<br />

Degree awarded: Master of Engineering in Telecommunication Systems<br />

Professional Qualification: Telecommunications Engineer (MEng)<br />

Duration: 1 year (2 terms)<br />

The main goal of the master’s degree course is to equip the graduates with in-depth professional<br />

knowledge and skills to solve engineering problems in the field of telecommunications namely design,<br />

control and analysis of telecommunication systems.<br />

The duration of the master’s degree course is two terms for full time students and three terms for parttime<br />

students including the writing of the diploma project.<br />

Pre-requisites:<br />

The course is intended for graduates in:<br />

• BEng in Telecommunication Systems;<br />

• BEng and MEng in Computer Systems and Technologies;<br />

• BEng and MEng in Electronics;<br />

• BEng and MEng in Automation, <strong>Information</strong> and Control Systems<br />

who are admitted to the Telecommunication Systems Master’s Degree Course.<br />

General description:<br />

The Master’s degree course includes subjects such as Telecommunication Networks, Teletraffic<br />

Engineering, Processing and Transmitting Signals, Communications in Industrial Networks, Radio<br />

Systems, Communication and Geoinformation Technologies, Specialised Microprocessor Systems, and<br />

Artificial Intelligence. The individual research provides the opportunity for acquiring in-depth knowledge<br />

in a specific area in the field of telecommunications and helps the students to write their Diploma<br />

projects. The students can choose various optional language acquisition subjects. At the University the<br />

students have at their disposal unlimited internet connection and all the library resources. They can also<br />

use the numerous laboratory resources and the PhD room supplied with office equipment and various<br />

software tools.<br />

The Degree Course finishes with the writing, presentation and defence of a Diploma Project.<br />

The Master’s degree course in Telecommunication Systems has been designed to provide the students<br />

with an in-depth insight into the key technological areas that are driving the mobile communications<br />

revolution.<br />

Most of the graduates move straight into permanent career employment in companies of all sizes<br />

around the globe. The majority take up positions as design engineers, software engineers, or<br />

development engineers in the public and private sectors, industry, and some move into management,<br />

marketing, transport, banking, etc. Some set up their own companies and go on to become the<br />

industrial leaders of tomorrow. Some go on to do further study or training.<br />

Masters of Engineering in Telecommunication Systems must have clear understanding of their<br />

role and significance in the developing global information society and the responsibilities<br />

associated with that.<br />
