FcOOD AND REFRESHMENTS,
as the articles and photos in this issue
indicate, are increasingly important
factors in the planning, construction
and operation of drive-in and indoor
theatres.
In Atlanta, Georgia Theatre's new
800-car $400,000 Northeast Expressway
Drive-In Theatre features a 60-foot by
80-fcot colonial concessions building
designed and equipped to serve all patrons
in a 10-minute intermission, with
four to six persons working its
two-line
counter. And it also provides a rooftop
dining and picture-viewing area for
about 150 persons that is proving a
popular "gathering spot for entire families."
Details on GTC's innovationstudded
Northeast are presented in the
photo-story starting on page 6.
In Rochester, the new $500,000 1,200-
seat Loew's Theatre features a blueand-white-striped
canopied concessions
stand 19 feet wide and seven feet
deep. The rear wall is one-inch goldpainted
cork glued to plywood so as to
permit affixing of advertising displays.
Two ice drink vending machines and a
candy vending machine supplement
the stand. Story starts on page 12.
In Calgary, the new 1,050-car $500,-
000 Corral Drive-In accents its Western
motif with a 60-foot by 80-foot "Chuckwagon"
refreshments center. On peak
nights the "Chuckwagon" has nine to
1 1 concessions employes, including two
cashiers. Ronald Tiboni, manager, says
the Corral is the only drive-in in Calgary
serving pizzas and can turn out 16
pizzas in about four minutes with its
two ovens. Article and pictures start
on page 16.
In Lamesa, Tex., R. A. "Skeet" Noret's
Sky-Vue Drive-In has a special drivein
cafeteria window for customers who
just want "food to go." It's open during
the show, and "food-to-go" customers
don't need tickets! Noret considers
food service especially important in the
profit picture for small town theatres.
