Scope<br />

This document provides data preparation specialists with<br />

recommendations for preparing and printing variable process color and<br />

spot color jobs with your KODAK VERSAMARK Printing System. By reading<br />

and following these recommendations, you can dramatically improve<br />

throughput by reducing the need for reprinting. In addition to providing job<br />

preparation recommendations, this document also provides<br />

troubleshooting procedures for common print <strong>quality</strong> issues.<br />

You can use the Color Image Quality Guide in conjunction with the KODAK<br />

VERSAMARK Color Toolkit, a software program that helps data preparation<br />

specialists, ink output specialists, and printer operators obtain optimum<br />

<strong>image</strong> <strong>quality</strong> in jobs prepared for your printing system. For details on<br />

Color Toolkit features, see the Color Toolkit User’s Guide or help.<br />

The following three distinct groups make up the intended audience for this<br />

document:<br />

• Graphic artists, job layout designers, and other traditional pre-press<br />

specialists, referred to in this document as data prep specialists. This<br />

group includes anyone who creates, manipulates, or designs output<br />

to be printed.<br />

• Inkjet output specialists, which include those in charge of selecting<br />

paper, qualifying paper, and verifying output <strong>quality</strong>.<br />

• Press operators, who oversee all print operations, such as selecting<br />

the print mode, positioning printheads, setting the print speed, and<br />

controlling the dryer temperature.<br />
