CSD138, American Sign Language 1: An<br />

introduction to the language <strong>of</strong> signs and<br />

finger spelling. Receptive and expressive skills<br />

emphasized. The course will present stories,<br />

poems and readings that exist in deaf culture.<br />

(U)(3). Fall only.<br />

CSD139, American Sign Language 2: A<br />

continuation <strong>of</strong> CSD138. An introduction<br />

to the language <strong>of</strong> signs and finger spelling.<br />

Receptive and expressive skills emphasized.<br />

The course will present stories, poems and<br />

readings that exist in deaf culture. Prerequisite:<br />

CSD138. (U)(3). Spring only.<br />

CSD231, Introduction to <strong>Communication</strong><br />

Science and Disorders: Introduction to the<br />

field <strong>of</strong> communication sciences and disorders<br />

which includes phonetics, speech science,<br />

speech-pathology and audiology. Common<br />

speech and language disorders, their causes,<br />

treatment and general clinical procedures will<br />

be covered. (U)(3). Annually.<br />

CSD238S, American Sign Language 3:<br />

Emphasis on competency in signing, both<br />

receptive and expressive. Use <strong>of</strong> videos to gain<br />

insight into deaf culture. Prerequisite: CSD138,<br />

CSD139 or equivalent. (U)(3). Fall only.<br />

CSD239S, American Sign Language 4: A<br />

continuation <strong>of</strong> CSD238. Emphasizes competency<br />

in signing, both receptive and expressive.<br />

Use <strong>of</strong> videos to gain insight into deaf culture.<br />

Prerequisite: CSD238. (U)(3). Spring only.<br />

CSD240, Phonetics: A study <strong>of</strong> phonological<br />

science with emphasis on articulatory phonetics<br />

and the skills <strong>of</strong> phonetic transcription using<br />

the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).<br />

CSD332, Language Development: Major<br />

theoretical approaches to language acquisition,<br />

the perspectives and nature <strong>of</strong> language, normal<br />

and abnormal language behavior and basic<br />

management will be considered. (U)(3).<br />
