Dear readers, 

This December 2012 issue will be the last issue of Chan Brothers Travel’s 

online magazine, Happy Holidays. I hope that you have enjoyed 

reading all of our past issues and that some of the articles have inspired 

you to put all your work stress or family commitments or school work 

aside and just fly off to your favourite destination for a well-deserved 

break. I know, for sure, that writing those articles did make me realize 

that the world is so huge, there will always be a destination waiting 

for you to explore. 

Nevertheless, I will still continue to update you guys with more 

interesting information about countries all over the globe through 

another channel. Instead of our online magazine, you guys can check 

out our blog at http://gowheredowhat.wordpress.com/ from now on! 

This blog will now be my little space to share travel tips, updates, guides 

and experiences that I’ve gathered from my colleagues, friends and, 

sometimes, Google. Also, don’t forget to look out for guests writers 

who will share their own experiences during their travel. 

New year, new start! I definitely hope that you guys will continue

Hangzhou 

Oriental Capital of Leisure, 

City of Quality Life 

Come to Hangzhou, discover the mystery of China and fall in love with the West Lake 

Hangzhou is fast becoming a hot tourist 

spot, as well as a popular destination for 

corporate events. And it is not hard to figure out 

why. With picture perfect scenery and advanced 

infrastructures, you can easily have the best of 

both worlds; an unforgettable nature retreat and 

a great city getaway. In fact, the famous Italian 

traveller, Marco Polo, once described this city as 

the finest and the most splendid city in the world. 

West Lake 

Known as the UNESCO World Heritage Site, West 

Lake has influenced poets and painters throughout 

the ages for its natural beauty and historical relics. 

It is also home to many flora and fauna, which will 

make your visit extremely refreshing and relaxing.

Here, you not only get to pick your own tea leaves, 

but also get to enjoy a tea-tasting experience. 

Xixi National Wetland Park 

Xixi National Wetland Park is a remote and tranquil 

place to visit, perfect for those who want to get 

away from the busy city life. This wetland is filled 

with fish and prawns. As a result, fishing has become 

a popular activity here for locals and tourists alike. 

On top of that, you’ll get to see 100 over different 

species of birds, making this a great place for birdwatching 

as well. 

Longjing Village 

Longjing tea is one of the most famed products 

of Hangzhou. It is said that the best harvest are 

traditionally reserved for government officials and 

the wealthy elite. Such good quality tea leaves

Qinghe Square 

Walking along Qinghe Square will make you feel 

like you have gone back to the ancient times. The 

well-preserved shop houses here offer interesting 

and intricate products of Hangzhou, ranging from 

woodcarvings to handmade fans. Several teahouses 

and restaurants are also located in this vicinity, which 

makes it a nice place to visit for a lazy afternoon. 

Local Delicacies 

If you have a chance to visit Hangzhou, you have 

to try their local dishes. Dongpo Pork is a must-try! 

Consisting of half fat and half lean meat, this braised 

dish will melt in your mouth, with a tinge of sweet 

after taste. 

Named after the famous Hangzhou West Lake, The 

West Lake Vinegar Fish has a distinct sweet and sour 

taste, which will tantalise your taste buds for sure! 

Xitang Water Town 

With over thousands of years of history, Xitang 

Water Town is famous for its many well-preserved 

architectural buildings constructed during the Ming 

and Qing Dynasty. In the morning, water flows 

beneath the bridges, while the tiled houses reflect 

on the calm water. In the evening, lamps flicker and 

the fragrance of wine drifts. Many have said that this 

town is the perfect setting for poems and paintings.
