O
ur 2008 Las Almas Carmenére displays an outstanding
deep and intense bluish-violet color, and a highly
aromatic nose that reveals aromas of fresh black fruits such as
blackberry and plum interlaced with spicy characters of black
pepper, tobacco leaf, and a hint of ink. Barrel aging lends
pleasingly intense notes of roasted coffee and caramel. The
big-bodied and juicy palate offers very good structure and
elegance with mouth-filling tannins that are soft, fine, and velvety.
Our new Las Almas Carmenére shows exceptional concentration
and persistent elegance, making this a special wine to accompany
complex dishes, exotic meats, and creamy cheeses such as Roquefort.
Best served at 18ºC (64ºF).
CHILCAS SINGLE VINEYARD
CHARDONNAY 2008 SCORES
HIGH IN ROBERT PARKER´S
WINE ADVOTACTE
In a recent Robert Parker Wine Advocate tasting of Chilean
wines, VIA Wines Chilcas Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2008
received 89 points. In the words of Jay Miller, the magazine's
reviewer for Chile, the wine has “medium straw color, spiced
apple, white peach; savory palate, good volume and length”.
T
he grapes were hand picked in the early morning during the
third week of March, placed into small 10 kg boxes and
immediately transported to the cellar, where they were rigorously
inspected to select only the bunches in the best condition for
pressing. 20% of the grapes underwent a 6 to 12 hour cold soak at
8ºC–10ºC (46º–50ºF) to extract varietal intensity. 100% of the must
was fermented in stainless steel tanks for 14 to 16 days under a strict
temperature control at 14ºC–16ºC (57º–61ºF) to preserve the delicate
aromatic intensity. The wine was stabilized for 15 to 20 days at 0ºC
(32ºF) and then earth-filtered prior to bottling.
