Annual Public <strong>Meeting</strong>: February 3, 2011<br />

• Update on TBSI Online Modules: Veronica told directors that the online TBSI<br />

trainings will be administered by ESC4 beginning January 1, 2011, and will offer<br />

3 credit hours, instead of previous 6. A handout was given to directors outlining<br />

the TBSI training descriptions for each course. Veronica said she will be<br />

sending an email regarding the requirement of S.B. 1196 that each campus must<br />

form a TBSI core team.<br />

• Speech Language & VI Updates: Gracie brought the directors attention to<br />

handouts outlining SLP Series courses for credit for this year and assessing<br />

students with visual impairments.<br />

• VI Registration & Deaf-Blind Census: Directors were given a copy of the<br />

consent form being sent to schools to give to parents of students with visual<br />

impairments in order to receive special education services, like special<br />

textbooks, etc. It is important that all eligible students are registered with the<br />

Census so that Region 2 can receive the appropriate funding in that area. The<br />

deadline for schools to complete registration with TSBVI is January 31, 2011.<br />

• Standards-Based IEPS for PPCD and 3LIDS COSF Trainings: Handouts were<br />

given in the directors’ packets about these trainings. Linda told directors that the<br />

PPCD list serve is now available at PPCD@esc2.net. In addition, a suggestion<br />

was made to have PPCD trainings out in the region rather than always at <strong>ESC2</strong>.<br />

• Assistive Technology/3LIDS: Upcoming workshops and events were<br />

highlighted by Kimberly. She is also asking for new members for the AT<br />

Advisory Committee.<br />

• Collaborative Efforts: Kimberly shared the various collaborations that <strong>ESC2</strong> has<br />

with Driscoll Children’s Hospital, Texas A&M-CC, and the Coastal Bend Center<br />

for Independent Living (assists young people transitioning to adult).<br />

• Mobility Options Project: This project is a pilot voucher system to fund<br />

transportation to employment-related activities for people with disabilities in San<br />

Pat and Nueces counties. The project will be making a study of transportation<br />

barriers, and Kimberly may be asking for the directors’ assistance on an<br />

upcoming survey to aid in the study (see handout for more information).

• Hollyrod Foundation Give Away: Laura handed out a flyer to directors on the<br />

Foundation’s donation of iPads to children diagnosed with autism who are nonverbal<br />

or minimally verbal. The deadline for filing an application is December<br />

31, 2010.<br />

• Autism Online Training: Directors were given a form with 8 autism on-line<br />

courses in order to check off two they felt were most needed in their district.<br />

• FIEP: Barbie gave info on FIEP cluster site meetings, advanced facilitation, and<br />

follow-up day for advanced facilitators.<br />

• RF Monitoring: Consent decree expires December 31, 2010; TEA will continue<br />

with monitoring.<br />

• Assessment Update: Deborah told directors about assessment accountability<br />

with AYP. In addition, she told how the end of course assessments would be<br />

phased in over the next several years.<br />

Accountability & Compliance<br />

Gracie Pizzini • PBMAS: Gracie advised directors that if they receive a preliminary findings<br />

letter from TEA that they disagree with, to be sure and respond by letter about<br />

your disagreement and the reasons why. Also, in January 2011, random<br />

selection begins for all 1A’s.<br />

• SPP 8: Gracie reviewed information with directors regarding parent surveys.<br />

• Indicators 11, 12, & 13: Gracie presented information about submitting CAP via<br />

ISAM for staged and non-staged districts, along with deadlines.<br />

• Upcoming Letters: Directors can expect to receive letters from TEA on the<br />

following: SSA procedures, pre-award costs for ARRA, and Coordinated Early<br />

Intervening Services.<br />

• SPED Monitoring TETNs (1:00pm-4:00pm) – Dates: Dec. 16, Feb. 16, Mar. 8,<br />

April 11, May 13, and June 15<br />

• Prior written notice sample language was given to directors in a handout.<br />

Directors and staff were treated to a Christmas luncheon. Afterwards, directors had the option of attending training by Tom<br />

Jaggard on Accommodations and Assessments of Students Served in <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Education</strong>.
