The President’s Report Issue 40 December 2012 A Message from the President 2012 has been a banner year for all of us at UofL. Through these updates, we’ve been able to illustrate the economic impact of the university’s “Bucks for Brains” program, celebrate the physical transformation of our Belknap, ShelbyHurst and downtown campuses and highlight life-changing, faculty-driven research. We ended the year announcing a dynamic partnership with KentuckyOne Health, allowing University Hospital and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center to continue as an innovative academic health center and a vital regional safety net hospital. It’s all a part of our 2020 Plan, driving our mission to becoming a nationally recognized premier metropolitan research university. Look for more great news from us in 2013 and beyond. 2012 The Year in Review January 2012 “Bucks for Brains” produces a net economic impact of over $840.6 million. February 2012 UofL’s Signature Partnership strives to improve health, economic standing and quality of life through education. March 2012 The Institute for Cellular Therapeutics is researching advanced adult stem cell therapies to treat organ transplant recipients. April 2012 UofL breaks ground on new $37.5 million student recreation center May 2012 UofL welcomed approximately 2,000 new alumni following spring graduation. June 2012 The number of baccalaureate degrees, retention and graduation rates, and quality of our incoming students continues to improve. July 2012 Ground is broken for the Belknap Engineering and Applied Sciences Park. (Year in Review continues on back) August 2012 The school welcomed a record 2,657 freshmen, the most gifted incoming class in the university’s history. September 2012 Dr. Ramsey delivers the “State of the University” address. October/November 2012 School officials traveled 1,919 miles and met with 2,918 high school students during the Annual Fall Outreach Tour.
