Greetings West Palm Beach!

Summer is here along with many opportunities for fun and fitness at

your public parks. Youth camps are offered throughout the city, as are

a multitude of programs for adults to enjoy.

So as the heat hits you, enjoy some time at a fountain at one of

your parks, take a swim in the public pool, cruise through the

everglades at Grassy Waters Preserve or cool off in one of our many

recreation centers.

Our City’s new waterfront is now open and I encourage you to take in all the sights and sounds

of this very special amenity. It is designed for strolling, biking and roller skating. Three piers are

available for free daytime docking and our middle pedestrian dock extends more than 100 yards

into the intracoastal waterway, allowing a water experience for all.

There will be special events on the waterfront great lawn throughout the summer, including salsa

dancing and jazz concerts. Every evening the great lawn will come alive at dark with music and

light shows at 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Bring your family and friends and share a picnic.

All the information on our parks and events is easily accessible at our website www.wpb.org.

You can also call our 24 hour city hotline for information or to let us know about everything from

broken streetlights to downed trees in the road. Just call 822-2222 to contact the city.

Sincerely,

Mayor Lois J. Frankel

When West Palm Beach, like many urban cities nationwide, began experiencing an escalation of youth gun violence, the City

partnered with the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission and a host of service providers to create a facility specially

designed for teens. In 2007, we opened the Northwood Youth Empowerment Center and since then have enrolled over 450

area teens in educational and recreational programs including computer use, design and construction; tutoring; FCAT prep;

audio/video production; substance abuse education; teen pregnancy prevention; intramural basketball and flag football; talent

competitions; gang prevention; job readiness and training. We hold job fairs, offer career planning, college tours and a place to

just hang out. The center is open Monday through Saturday – with a game room that includes X-Box 360, billiards, ping pong,

Palm Beach County Drowning Prevention Coalition in an effort

to educate about water safety, prevent drowning and provide

swim lessons free of charge to qualified candidates in the form

of a voucher called “Drowning Prevention Bucks.” To see if

you qualify for Drowning Prevention Coalition Bucks, please

call (561) 616-7068.
