each year, more than 400 babies are cared for in the FMC Neonatal Intensive Care unit - one of only
two in south Australia - with many premature infants requiring around-the-clock breathing support,
close monitoring and intravenous feeding. Regional families experience the added financial burden -
during an already trying time - of having to find accommodation near the Centre.
The neonatal parent accommodation renovation began last month and is expected to be complete
by August.
Wanting to also benefit those directly using the neonatal facilities, sA Lotteries increased its
donation to $50,000 to allow for the purchase of essential cardio-respiratory monitors for the unit.
Noeline Hudson, FMC Neonatal unit Clinical services Coordinator, said the monitors would help
measure the breathing, heart-rate, blood pressure and temperature of sick and premature infants.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have more of these monitors, as they will give us greater flexibility
and resources to care for the increase in respiratory illnesses we will see coming into the winter
months,” Noeline said.
“We are so grateful to sA Lotteries for purchasing this equipment, on top of their wonderful
contribution towards the neonatal parent accommodation rescue.”
sA Lotteries’ $50,000 donation was in addition to its annual distribution of more than
$90 million in game profits to south Australian hospitals.
