Mr I Summerfield<br />
Welsh U15s development squad this year. Well<br />
done girls!<br />
Boys’ Basketball<br />
Despite having a slow start <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> season, <strong>the</strong><br />
boys have trained hard and have played very<br />
well. They were entered in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Welsh National<br />
<strong>School</strong>s Basketball Tournament in April where<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir excellent efforts allowed <strong>the</strong>m <strong>to</strong> obtain a<br />
comfortable win against St Cyres. Unfortunately,<br />
in a close competition <strong>the</strong>y were unable<br />
<strong>to</strong> defeat Cowbridge and St Richard Gwyn <strong>to</strong><br />
progress <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> next stage <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>urnament.<br />
Excellent individual performances throughout<br />
<strong>the</strong> year came from Mat<strong>the</strong>w Allen, Calum<br />
Hughes, Stavros and Ta<strong>to</strong> Katsikeas and<br />
George Kynas<strong>to</strong>n. Well done boys!<br />
Netball<br />
Congratulations <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Year 7, 8 and 9 netball<br />
teams who won <strong>the</strong>ir round <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>urnament<br />
and qualified for <strong>the</strong> county finals at<br />
Whitchurch. All three teams played really<br />
well and came away in 4 th place.<br />
Gymnastics<br />
In January a Year 7 and 8 team and a Year<br />
9 and 10 team <strong>to</strong>ok part in <strong>the</strong> Cardiff and<br />
<strong>the</strong> Vale Tumble and Vault competition.<br />
The girls performed really well and Year 7<br />
and 8 came away in 2 nd place with excellent<br />
individual performances from Chloe Poole<br />
and Seren Lewis. The Year 9 and 10<br />
team came away in 3 rd place. Congratulations<br />
<strong>to</strong> Chloe and Seren who were<br />
selected for <strong>the</strong> Welsh team in Gymnastics.<br />
Tennis<br />
Congratulations <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Year 7 and 8 boys’<br />
and girls’ team who won <strong>the</strong> Vale <strong>of</strong> Glamorgan<br />
section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Aegon Tennis <strong>to</strong>urnament<br />
held at Dinas Powys tennis club.<br />
Both teams will now go on <strong>to</strong> play against<br />
<strong>the</strong> Cardiff schools winners in July. The<br />
team consisted <strong>of</strong> Georgia Atkinson,<br />
Olivia Hamzelou, Nick Mackey, Tom<br />
Marsh, Seren Marsh, Will Marsh,<br />
Spencer Robinson and Milly Williams.<br />
New Sports Kit<br />
The PE department would like <strong>to</strong> thank<br />
<strong>the</strong> PTA for purchasing both <strong>the</strong> netball<br />
and basketball kits. All pupils are looking<br />
forward <strong>to</strong> playing in <strong>the</strong>ir new kit next<br />
year. I’m sure you agree <strong>the</strong>y look very<br />
smart!<br />
Golf<br />
Tim Harry( Year 9) and Lloyd Phillips<br />
(Year 10) have been selected <strong>to</strong> represent<br />
Cardiff and <strong>the</strong> Vale in <strong>the</strong> Inter-Counties<br />
Welsh <strong>School</strong>s Golf Championship <strong>to</strong> be held<br />
in Newport.<br />
