Somec works in the field of architectural and naval

envelopes by designing, producing and installing

custom closing and cladding systems.

Due to the continued collaboration with architects,

designers and research and development for new systems

and components, Somec is able to arise as a top level

partner in the implementation of envelopes which is

one of the most important components that are crucial,

and technologically advanced, both in the construction

and in the shipbuilding sector.

//////////somec 7

the history/

The history of Somec began in 1978, in the province of Treviso, in the heart

of the Veneto countryside. Since the year of its foundation, Somec has shown ambitions

in the international market which soon will emancipate the company from its role

of small business in the Northeast. After 10 years of hard work, study and research,

professionalism and acquired reputation lead Somec to the first foreign job order in Vladivostok,

Russia. The company was selected for its Grip-O-Glass, the first system of glass facades

designed and patented by the company. From here onwards Somec’s story will be crowned

with accomplishments and major contracts; the system Grip-O-Glass is known throughout

the world, from Russia to Australia, combined with the ability to make an active contribution

to projects, manage all technical, architectural and regulatory issues.

Since 1994, Somec has been expanding its business in the shipbuilding industry, launching

the diversification strategy of the glass curtain wall. Ship-owners and shipyards around

the world recognize the high level of competence and professionalism of the Treviso company.

It’s during these years that the ships Grand Princess and Carnival Destiny, “epic” projects

in the marine industry, will be equipped with Somec’s windows.

It was 2003 when Somec moved into a new Headquarters, also located in the province

of Treviso, with an area of 35,000 square meters, of which 16,000 are covered.

The innovative architecture and the use of advanced technologies applied to

the project clearly express the extraordinary expertise which for over 25 years,

marked the production of Somec.

2011 is the turning point year for Somec: the acquisition by the Nice Group

is the first step toward a new path that will make Somec a high profile player

in the international scene.

8 //////////somec

From September 2011

Somec is part

of the Nice Group.

Established in the early 90s

and listed on the STAR

segment of Italian stock market,

Nice is the international point

of reference with a wide range

of integrated systems for the

automation of gates, garages,

the entry into the field of lighting

systems with a wide range

of integrated solutions for

the home; a new enrichment

to the quest for elegance

and excellence, to provide

an innovative contribution

to the needs of everyday life.

The goal of the acquisition

of Somec by Nice Group

is to provide integrated,

flexible products, and services

in the Building and Marine

Divisions various fields of

application, in construction

of new buildings and -last

but not least- renovations,

ideal for any architectural

requirement.

One actor, one contact.

Nice Group, thanks to the

support of companies such

as Somec and FontanaArte,

becomes the symbol of

Made in Italy and becomes

a way of doing business

which is constantly striving

is geared towards simplicity

of use, transparency, and

aesthetic quality. Boring

and complicated tasks become

smooth and fun activities

able to satisfy the consumer ...”

from Il Sole 24 Ore -

Speciale Nova, 2007.

why

choose

somec/

10 //////////somec

Somec employs all its resources of creativity and enthusiasm

for increasing the level of customer satisfaction, improving quality of life.

With knowledge and expertise we want to offer products and services

that exceed customer expectations and impress them positively

from the outset.

Our mission is achieved through 3 basic rules:

/

give customers

more than

they expect

//

create

a favorable

environment

to the personal

initiative

///

be aware

of social

responsibility

//////////somec 11

Sinergy with the client

We do not work

for the customer.

We work with the customer.

Design, manufacture and

installation are followed directly

by architects, investors and end

users. Continued co-operation

to achieve the highest

levels of satisfaction.

Tailor Made solutions

Our mission is to realize

custom-made systems to

suit the requirements of each

different client and respect the

architectural language of the

designer. This is possible thanks

to rather studying, interpreting

and adapting from time to time

different façade types and

systems, to suit client’s needs.

Industrialized production

although for hand-crafted

solution

We have engineered all

production processes, without

losing the traditional knowledge

of artisan know-how.

Project integration

With the experience gained

over the years we have

optimized the processes

of project management. We

design and develop solutions

together with other technology

partners with different skills.

Innovation

True passion knows no

boundaries. Products,

materials and components

are always the center of

our studies, research and

experiments. We continuously

improve production and

provision process, we fulfill

the increasing levels of

demand and we sharpen

skills and knowledge.

Wear our world

Perception, aesthetics,

performance, economy and

functionality are the five senses

we live with. We continually

interpret and rewrite the science

of designing and producing

construction and naval casings.

One thought makes our product

provide protection from heat

and cold, sun filter, rain barrier,

screen and frontier for the

world, simple and essential

touch of class and beauty.

Glass

The activity of the Somec

glassware department aims

at processing of flat glass to

achieve the technical elements

required for the construction

of naval and architectural

casings. In 3000 square meters

of the factory are carried

out processing such as cutting

monolithic and stratified glass,

and assembly of insulated

and structural glass.

In addition to supporting

projects implemented by

the company, and thanks to

the expertise and experience

acquired over the years,

glasswork is able to realize

supplies for third parties,

serving the market as specialist

and providing a constant

service, independent from

ongoing business activities.

The activity of Somec in the building sector is to realize custom-made systems to suit the requirements

of each different client and comply with the particular environmental conditions of the place where

the building is located and – last but not least – to respect the architectural language of the designer.

Creating an architectural envelope does not mean putting together various components chosen

from a catalogue, but rather studying, interpreting and adapting from time to time different façade

types and systems, to suit client’s needs. This is possible thanks to the coexistence in Somec

of factors such as a team of technical designers with years of experience in the sector and the

capacity to converse with clients and architects at the same time, and a consolidated activity

of design and construction of envelopes realized in co-operation with famous architectural bureaus.

This is the best evidence of the technical, aesthetic and performance level that Somec is able to reach.

Somec’s Marine Division is specialised in the design, production and installation of envelopes

for cruise ships and ferries.

The world leadership reached by Somec is evidenced by the long list of projects carried

out both in Italy and abroad, fruit of the close co-operation with ship-builders and shipowners.

Somec has implemented a large quantity of naval products during the years: doors (hinged

and sliding doors, weather-tight and fire doors); windows, balustrades and partitions for the cabins,

wheelhouses glazing, windscreens, structural glass walls for public areas and restaurants,

special glazing for panoramic lifts, wellness areas, gyms and tunnels.

Marine New building

This is a sector where a large number of factors and knowledge concepts of technical,

aesthetic, engineering and economic type converge, consequently only a consolidated experience

in the field can ensure that all stages of realisation of a product are followed successfully.

Each product marked by Somec is designed in conformance with the current strict norms

of the sector and is tailor-made according to the specific requirements of each client.

Marine Refitting

Existing ships usually undergo maintenance services, at times they are refurbished and rearranged

through real “upgrade” operations. Refitting services are carried out on specific projects,

considering the conditions of each single ship and the requirements of the employer.

A refitting operation can be carried out at various levels, according to the parts that require

maintenance or replacement, aiming at functionally upgrading the ship or improving its aesthetic

look or again increasing performance levels.

The refitting activity is characterized by very tight timetables compared with the new building service,

consequently greater organisation and quick execution capacity are required, always keeping

in mind at the same time quality requirements.
