initiatives follows below.
Credentials Committee
The American Head & Neck Society encourages all of its members to
participate in the recruitment of new members. Due to the timing of the
AHNS Annual Meeting, we will consider all complete applications
submitted through December 1, 2004.
Applying for membership is now easier than ever. Our membership application
is available online at www.ahns.info/membercentral/ You may also
contact the AHNS administrative office for a copy of the application at
(310) 437-0559 ext. 110 or via email at membership@ahns.info.
Membership in the Society provides many benefits, but one immediate
benefit will be a reduction in the registration fees for the Annual Meeting
for all applicants with complete membership applications! Please pass this
information along to your colleagues, residents and fellows.

CPT Code Project Update
History Committee
Efforts by AHNS leaders to bring key CPT codes up for review before the Relative Value
Update Committee (RUC) are now underway in earnest. The final timeline will be set by
CMS in November, 2004. The AHNS RUC Steering Committee has been working diligently
to prepare a “comment” (a document proposing and supporting those codes we have determined
most promising for favorable re-valuation). It is anticipated that surveys of representative surgeons
will be performed in the Spring of 2005 with presentation of results before the RUC next summer.
To volunteer to be surveyed, please contact Wayne Koch at wkoch@jhmi.edu. Please indicate
your city and state, and your type of practice (academic vs. private). Please also include your
contact information.
The History Committee is devoted to
maintaining the heritage of the Head
and Neck Society. One project of the committee
is to obtain oral histories from distinguished
senior members of our Society
and to present them. The first two interviews
are posted on our website!
