You Ar& Whof ^ou Eaf 400 Opener
In New York; Charly' Pleasing 350
NEW ^ ORK— lt\ slill uncertain just how
the teachers" strike affected boxoffice
grosses here but for the most part business
was steady if unspectacular. The general
dearth of new product was not helping, causing
at least one Broadway house to play a
p.cture which had already been pretty well
played out at a nearby theatre. There were,
however, some big new openers.
In its first week at the Baronet, "Charly"
chalked up the biggest gross of the year for
that house and looked to do well for some
time to come. "You Are What You Eat'" was
another huge grosser in its opening sessions
at the Carnegie Hall Cinema. That house has
been considerably prettied up in a psychedelic
style, in keeping with the filnVs subject
matter. "Bofors Gun"" was disappointing in
its first week at the Sutton.
"Funny Girl"" was still capacity in its second
week at the Criterion, with the ticket
demand resulting in the scheduling of an
additional .Saturday morning performance
which will continue throughout what looks
to be a long run.
Grossing well above average was "Hot
Millions" at the Radio City Music Hall. The
next film scheduled for that showplace is
"The Brotherhood."'
