FUND-RAISING ACTIVITIES

It is natural to associate the fez with Shriners Hospitals for

Children. Because of this, meticulous attention must be given to

all fund-raising activities, including circuses, to make certain that

a contributor is not led to believe that his money will be used for

the Hospitals when all or a portion thereof will be used otherwise.

The integrity of our charity and of our fraternity must remain above

reproach.

Your specific attention is called to the following fraternal and

charitable by laws:

§335.3 USE OF NAME "SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN."

The use of the name "Shriners Hospitals for Children" or

reference to the Hospitals in connection with any fund-raising

activity by a temple or Noble without the written consent of the

Imperial Potentate and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of

the Hospitals is prohibited.

§503.10 The use of the name "Shriners Hospitals for Children" or

reference to the hospitals in connection with any commercial

product or business enterprise is prohibited unless the written

consent of the Board of Directors and Trustees has been first

obtained.

Now, therefore, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED:

1. Fund-Raising for Fraternal Purposes:

(a) No Noble (in his capacity as a Shriner), club, unit, organization of

Nobles or affiliated or appendant corporations, shall engage in

any fund-raising activity without the express written consent of

the potentate of the tem ple having jurisdiction thereof.

(b) There can be no representation, express or implied, that the

proceeds will be for the benefit of Shriners Hospitals for

Children.

(c) The temple potentate shall carefully examine all phases of the

advertising, promotion and solicitation to determine that it

complies with §335.3 and §503.9 of the fraternal and charitable

bylaws.

(d) The temple potentate must approve the terms and provisions of

any contract for a fund-raising activity after receiving the advice

of the temple attorney, and, addi tionally, as may be required by

the temple bylaws.

(e) A copy of the temple potentate's written consent shall be mailed

to the Imperial Recorder. Further, such written material pertaining

to the fund-raising activity, as requested by the Imperial

Recorder, shall be promptly mailed to him.

2. Fund-Raising for Charitable Purposes:

(a) No Noble (in his capacity as a Shriner), club, unit, organization of

Nobles or affiliated or appendant corporations shall engage in

any charitable fund-raising activity other than for Shriners

Hospitals for Children. Permission therefor must be first

obtained in writing from the temple potentate. The temple

potentate must then obtain written permission from the

Imperial Potentate and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

This request for written permission shall be sent to the

Executive Vice President—Fraternal, Imperial Council, P.O. Box

31356, Tampa, FL 33631-3356.

(b) 100% of the net proceeds from charitable fund-raising must

be given to Shriners Hospitals for Children except for such portion

thereof as may be permitted to be retained for the temple

Shrine Hospital Patient Transportation Fund pursuant to the

Special Purpose Funds provisions of any existing General Order.

(c) The temple shall report the result of each charitable

fund-raising activity within sixty (60) days of the activity, to

Shriners Hospitals for Children, on the Shrine Charity Activity

Form (CAF) provided to the temple.

(d) This section shall not apply to activities exempt under §335.4(b)

of the bylaws of The Imperial Council.

(e) Each independent corporation or entity that receives the

permission of the Imperial Potentate and the Chairman. of the

Board of Trustees to raise money for Shriners Hospitals for

Children, and which does not have its financial accounts audited

pursuant to §§334.5 & 337.8 of the bylaws of The Imperial

Council, shall have its financial accounts audited by a certified,

chartered or licensed public accountant and shall submit such

audit report to The Imperial Council within 120 days of the

activity.

3. Statement of Purpose and Disclosure:

(a) Every fund-raising activity must contain factual information on its

solicitation material, tickets, programs and documents regarding

the use of the proceeds.

Examples

“Proceeds are for the benefit of ( Temple) (Shrine Club) activities."

"Proceeds are for the benefit of Shriners Hospitals for Children."

(b) Every fund-raising activity which is not entirely for the benefit of

Shriners Hospitals for Children shall prominently state on the

solicitation material, tickets and documents that "payments are

not deductible as charitable contributions."

(c) There must be compliance with the Revenue Act of 1987 provision

of any existing general order by U.S. temples.

4. Compliance with Applicable Laws:

It is the responsibility of the temple potentate, after receiving

the advice of the temple attorney, to determine that there is

compliance with all applicable laws in its jurisdiction for the

temple's fundraising activities.

5. Financial Records:

(a) The temple shall maintain detailed financial records per taining

to all fund-raising activities involving Nobles, clubs, units,

organizations of Nobles or affiliated or appendant corporations.

Details of all revenues and dis bursements shall be maintained

in such financial records.

(b) The temple must retain such detailed financial records for a

period of seven (7) years.

(c) There must be compliance with the Financial Reporting on

Charitable Funds and Activities provision of any existing

general order.

6. Notification to Nobility:

A copy of the Fund-Raising Activities provisions of this

General Order shall be printed in the temple publication at least

once every calendar year. If there is no temple publication, then a

copy shall be mailed to each Noble in the temple not later than the

last day in March of each calendar year.

7. Discipline:

Any officer, Noble or temple which violates a provision of

Fund-Raising Activities is subject to discipline pursuant to the bylaws

of The Imperial Council.

High Priest & Prophet

Membership Chairman

Ray teller

I

would like to thank the nobility for their

confidence in electing me as your High

Priest and Prophet for the year 2012. I

would also like to congratulate Ill. Sir

Joseph T Register our Potentate for 2012. I

pledge my full support to him, the rest of the

Divan, and to the nobles of Khedive Shrine.

First Quarter 2012

ILL. Sir Joe Register has appointed me as the

Membership chairman of Khedive Shriners

for 2012. Membership is a huge responsibility.

We cannot take this lightly. We are now down

to 2399 members to start 2012. Since 2007 we

have lost 389 members due to the black camel,

suspensions, and demit. According to the

international office if we don’t do something

differently we will lose another 239 members

by 2015. An old saying goes “If you always

do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get

what you’ve always got”. We have to change…

Our goal (from Imperial) is to increase

our membership by 1 % per year, which is

approximately 239 members.

Some things we can do:

• Attend your blue lodge and get active. Ask

another Mason to attend with you. We can’t

grow if our lodges don’t.

• Blue lodges can work with the DeMolay, Boy

scouts, college fraternities, etc.

• We must work with our Grand Lodge so we can

both grow and prosper.

• Think out of the box. I’m sure there are many

great ideas out there that will enhance our

cause.

• If you know a good person, ask him if he ever

thought of being a Mason or a Shriner. Talk

about what we do. You never know where it

might lead.

• Bring a shrine friend to our meetings, clubs,

units

• Ask your family, friends, and neighbors to

attend open events, dances, picnics etc. so they

can see the fun side.

Lodge ambassadors should attend Blue lodges

and discuss upcoming Shrine events, hospital

program, and roadrunners. Make our presence

known at every meeting.

I would also like all assigned lodge ambassadors

to call me to confirm their commitment to the

Ambassador position they hold, and if there

are volunteers for the lodges that don’t have

ambassadors, please contact me.

I am confident that we will succeed in increased

membership in our Blue lodges and Khedive

Shriners if we all put our heads together

and work as a team for a common goal….

Membership.

Yours in the faith;

Hi-Noble

First Quarter 2012

Public Relations

Tom Carter

Congratulations to Ill Sir Joe Register and his Divan on

being elected to lead Khedive Shrine in 2012!

The 2012 Khedive Officers Manual was distributed at

the UaCA Orientation/Breakfast on January 14th. I

encourage all Club Presidents and Unit Directors to

use this Manual to guide them through their year of

leadership of their Units and/or Club.

The annual Norfolk Admirals/Shrine Night will be

Saturday, March 3rd at the Scope. Nancy Lane (ext

306) has tickets for this event. It is a fund raiser for the

Roadrunners, who use the profits to sponsor a picnic

for our patients and their parents. They have agreed to

help me with a KIT (Khedive Information Table) again

this year. Khedive will be involved with presenting the

colors (Khedive Legion of Honor), the singing of the

National Anthem, dropping the puck (Pote and a patient),

and the Motor Corps will be ?on the ice? during the

intermissions. It is a fun, exciting night and offers us an

excellent opportunity to put our best foot forward in the

eyes of the public. Wear your Fez, a Shrine shirt and I

will see you there!

Several of you have borrowed the two Pole Banners that

we have and displayed them at your events. Remember,

Nobles, they cost $200 each, so if you break it, you

replace it! We have Coloring Books and posters available

to support you in your Paper Crusades or other fund

raising events. I keep a small inventory at Khedive, but

can have them shipped directly to you in four business

days.

Noble Cliff Atkinson and the Roadrunners will be

sponsoring two Screening Clinics this year. The first will

be at the Scottish Rite in Newport News on May12th and

the second on the Eastern Shore on October 6th. If you

have any contacts with the School Nurses in your area,

please let us know.

Noble Sammy Compton got us an invitation to the

Newport News School Nurses quarterly meeting in

December (it was also their Christmas Party, so the

attendance was great!). We gave them a presentation on

SHC and told them about our upcoming Screening Clinic

in Newport News on May12th. They felt they would be

able to send some of their kids!! Now I ask you Nobles,

is there a more logical group to go through than School

Nurses to find new patients? Flyers for the Newport

News Screening Clinics will be put in the Unit Boxes and

mailed to the Clubs by the end of January. They are also

available on the Khedive web site. A special thanks goes

to Ill Sir Joe Register for getting behind the resurrection

of this program!

If you want to keep up to date with the Imperial Sir?s

newsletters, and general information about the Shrine

and Khedive, then sign up for the Khedive Email list. Just

contact Noble Email....Wayne Kelly...at WEKelly@cox.net

to sign up. Next time you see Wayne thank him for doing

this important service for Khedive.

When it comes to the web please make a habit of visiting

www.ShrinersVillage.com and khediveshrine.org they are

both full of a lot of information. I can assure you that if

you go to either site and spend at least 4 minutes on the

site you will learn three things you did not know!

Noble Jody Dudley asked me if he could put a donation

jar in The Beach Pub, a place he frequents. I said ok. Now

Jody has three different locations where he has Shrine

Collection Jars at the cash register. We have more jars

available in the office, BUT if you put them out, please

make arrangements to empty them at least every two

weeks.

We have two new additions to the Speakers Bureau this

year. Ill Sir Don Meyer and Noble Rae Eure are now

available to give a SHC presentation to your organization,

be it Masonic or non Masonic. Remember, we close every

presentation by asking for names of potential patients,

donations to the Khedive Transportation Fund and leads

for other speaking engagements. Let us hear from you,

Nobles!

Lady Judy Ewell, Secretary of the Golden Unit Wives Club

(Legion of Honor), says they are selling sunflower dish

cloths that are made in the USA and sell for $10 for a

bundle of 5 with all monies being donated to the Khedive

Transportation Fund. Give Judy a call at 464.3400.

Thanks, Ladies!

As you know by now I have decided to retire from the

Public Relations Chair after 13 years. It has been a great

ride! Noble John Howe is replacing me and has hit the

deck running. Nobles, please give John the same great

support that you have given me!

Isn’t it great to be a Khedive Shriner!!!????

KHEDIVE

TRANSPORTATION

TRANSPORTATION REPORT BY CLIFF ATKINSON, DIRECTOR

I

S2010 we raised $155,500 and spent $163,000,

finishing the year $7500 in the red. In 2011 we

.raised $149,500 and spent $142,500, finishing the

year $7000 in the black. What the heck happened? In

2010 we did 30 trips more than last year. We had 20

more ground trips and 10 more air trips in 2010.

One thing is, we learned, thanks to Edward Usita, how

to manage our commercial air costs. When our Air

Wing is not available and weather permitting, we are

now driving our patients to Cincinnati to save costs. We

had one new burn patient last year at a cost of $15,000

for the air ambulance. The $149,500 we raised last year

includes the $4500 from the sale of one of our vans.

We currently have 184 patients including the 21 new

patients we added last year. We added 1 burn patient,

11 Philadelphia patients, and 9 Greenville patients.

We have 2 screening clinics scheduled for this year, one

at the Newport News Scottish Rite Temple on May 12th

and the second on October 6th on the Eastern Shore.

While our screening clinic last September only added 6

new patients, the efforts to get patients added at least

another 5. With your assistance, we hope to do better

this year.

There has been some talk going around that the

Transportation Fund has plenty of money. To a certain

extent, that’s true, as long as we maintain the status

quo. But one bad year can wipe out those gains and put

us behind. We’ve been lucky that several of our recent

burn patients had insurance to cover the air ambulance

costs. That saved us over $45,000. With costs rising

and membership declining, we need all the cushion we

can get. Thank you for your past and present support.

Isn’t it great to be a “Khedive” Shriner!

chairman terry riley

The 63rd Annual Khedive Shrine Oyster

Bowl is confirmed, the Old Dominion

University Monarchs will be playing

host to University of Delaware Blue

Hens @ Foreman Field, October 27, 2012. Last

year the Blue Hens defeated the Monarchs by

a score of 27-17, giving the Monarchs their

1 st loss of the year. This year’s game should

be just as exciting as last years as ODU will be

fighting to avenge last years defeat.

We are currently in the planning stages for

this year’s game, so Nobles if you have any

suggestions or comments, please let me

know, I always enjoy hearing stories about

the past Oyster Bowl games and the activities

surrounding it. Nobles are always asking me

how they can help, we need to sell ad’s… If you

know of someone who would like to take an

ad out in this year’s souvenir program, let us

know and we will do everything we can to take

care of them. We will also need to get a team

together to cook Oyster’s, Game Day inside the

stadium like we have done in the past.

Again, in support of the Oyster Bowl, ODU has

asked us to join them in their Homecoming

Parade, October 13 th , more details to follow.

I’d like to see all the units come out and

participate. For those of you who were in

attendance at last year’s parade know what

a good time it was. After the Parade, we can

tailgate, and for those of you who have tickets,

we can watch ODU take on the Villanova

Wildcats.

In closing, I’d like to send out a special thanks

to all the Nobles and their ladies again for all

their support!

Thank You and May God Bless

you and your Family

Motor Corps Installation of Officers

Les Aker Right

Happy New Year 2012 to ALL. As Captain

of the Motor Corps I foresee a bright and

exciting year both for the Khedive Temple,

their Units and the Motor Corps. It is

going to be an exciting time with the Imperial in July,

followed by in the fall of MASA and SASA. We look

forward to supporting our 2012 Potentate Illustrious

Sir Joe Register, his Lady Holly and the Divan. Isn’t it

GREAT to be a Shriner.

December finished on a good note with the Motor

Corps participating in parades for Lynnhaven Colony,

the Oceanfront Virginia Beach Parade and the

Smithfield Parade. We had a wonderful time doing all

the parades especially the one in Smithfield where our

ladies shopped in the morning while we prepared for

parading in the afternoon. The day was topped off by

our Annual Holiday Party and Installation of Officers

at the Smithfield Station. High Priest and Prophet

Randy Murphy was our installing officer and we were

also fortunate to have the Illustrious Sir Don Meyer

and his Lady Betty join us for the evening events.

The Unit is anxious in seeing everyone at the Potentate

Ball in February. We are also looking forward to the

March events which includes Admirals Shrine night,

and the Oceanview St. Patricks Day parade. I hope

everyone comes out for the Admirals Night at the

Scope on 03 March. We will be on the Ice with other

Motorized Units of the Temple. Until then stay warm

and keep the Faith for the Children.

(Top Left Photo: left to right) Installing Officer - High Priest

and Prophet Randy Murphy, Captain Les Aker, 1st Lieutenant

Ernie Ayers, 2nd Lieutenant Steve Smith (PC), Secretary George

Messinger (PC) and Treasuer Kevin Dawkins.

Speaking of the Installation of Officers, I would like

to take this opportunity to introduce the new Motor

Corps Officers and their ladies for 2012, the Captain

is Les Aker and Lady Linda, 1 st Lieutenant Ernie Ayers

and Lady Dana, 2 nd Lieutenant Steve Smith (PC) and

Lady Judy, Secretary is George Messinger (PC) and

Lady Bonnie. We have had one change since our

Installation in December and that is Noble Kevin

Dawkins (PC) and Lady Cheryl replaced Noble Elwood

Paschal and his Lady Pat as Treasurer. As you all

know Noble Elwood has moved up the line to be the

Temples Oriental Guide for 2012. Congratulations

Noble Elwood and his Lady Pat for being voted into

the nobility of the Temple. We wish them well in their

future endeavors.

First Quarter 2012

Greetings Nobles, the new year is well under way.

The Patrol would like to take this belated opportunity

to wish everyone a happy, healthy and

prosperous New Year. I apologize to the Nobles for

missing the dead line for an article in the fourth quarter

of the Hi-Noble, but I was out of town for most of

November and December and just neglected to perform

my duties.

I would like to congratulate and wish all the officers

of the 2012 Divan success and good luck in the

ensuing year. Next, I think a tip of the Fez and congratulations

go to the illustrious Sir Don Meyer and

his Lady Betty for their leadship this past year. Also,

I would like to congratulate the Mini 18 Wheelers for

their accomplishments; winning 1st place in competion

drill and obstacle course and 2nd place for Mini Rigg at

the MASA Convention Parade in Pigeon Forge.

Arab Patrol was honored and enjoyed assisting

the Chesapeake Shrine Club with the Oyster Roast and

helping with the Khedive Shrine Temple Seafood Festival. Both

were sucessful events. Members of the Patrol

are looking forward to assisting in these events again

this year as well as other activities.

The Units Ball and Christmas Party was enjoyed

by all who attended. The elected officers for the ensuing

year for the Chesapeake Shrine Club and the Arab

Patrol were installed at this event. The Patrol officers

are: Jim Nath, Captain;Jack Ryals, 1st Lieutenant;Bill

Huguenel,2nd Lieutenant and Jimmie Smith,Secretary-

Treasurer. Congratulations to these newly elected Patrol

Officers. Good luck and have a sucessful year.

The Arab Patrol is one of the oldest units in the

Khedive Temple and age is taking its toll in participation

in marching in the various Parades. There has

been some talk of a system to moblize the Patrol if

feasible, hoping this would create more interest in particpation

in the Parade activies especially those members

unable to march.

Sorry to report our Past Captain John Smith is

still having health problems. Please keep him and Ken

Harkness, who is also in poor health, in your prayers.

A reminder that the Arab Patrol meets the 2nd

Monday of each month. All Nobles who are not active

in an uniform unit, please come and visit with with us.

We would be glad to have you.

Fraternally,

Jack Ryals,

First Lieutenant

The Drum & Bugle Corps is gearing up for what

should be another very great year. We have

already begun practicing for (not that we need it)

this year’s running of the 45th Annual Saint Patrick’s

secretary

First and foremost, congratulations to the new

officers of the Khedive Scooter Patrol unit for

the year 2012. The new line up is spear headed

by Noble Oscar Obsuna, Captain, followed by

Noble Jun Cachaper, 1 st Lt, Noble Freddie Veraque, 2 nd

Lt, Noble Lee A. Parrilla, Secretary, Noble Joe “MJ”

Salonga, Assistant Secretary, Noble Manny Vergara,

Treasurer, Noble Art Bautista, Assistant Treasurer and

other officers appointed by our Noble Captain.

2011 has been a busy year and exciting year for us.

We have been involved in most parades, picnics, oyster

fest, units and clubs induction dinner dances. We have

recruited more members than any other year since

this unit was conceived. The success could not been

more achieved without the leadership of our outgoing

Captain, Noble Pat Natividad. His attitude and enthusiasm

served inspiration Please to the entire join membership.

His brilliant example motivated us to participate celebrate in the this members milestone spear-headed by our Captain, Noble Oscar

parades and other events that Khedive Temple has to

offer. Noble Pat, you have done a great job as our last

year’s Captain. It was a nice ride with you.

The induction ball was held on December 10 th ,

2011. The event was a great success which was attended

by good numbers of individuals mostly from

units and clubs of the Khedive Temple organization.

To deviate from the past induction balls, our Captain,

promulgated a new twist to the program and that by

adding a “comedy skit.” It was something new and different,

but definitely entertaining.

Another deviation and addition to the old practice

was, raffle prices. They were more unique and different

previous years. The winners were delighted

and contended to the prize they received. I may add

that, the food committee did a splendid job in the food

preparation. Not only that the food was delicious,

the presentation was excellent as well. It was truly a

remarkable accomplishment, not even a hotel banquet

department can compete with. The entire evening

was just a great success which was something you

consider as “an affair to remember.” But the highlight

of the evening was the reunion of the original six

(6) members of the Khedive Scooter Patrol when it

was founded back in 2003. Our Noble Captain Oscar

Obsuna managed to find the other 2 members have not

been involved with the unit for quite a while, and they

were Noble Rey Culala and Noble Joe Coffield. Our

Noble Captain presented each member a plaque that

was uniquely made from the scratch by Noble Oscar

himself. There was something else that we neglected

to mention during the induction. Not only that the

original 6 members came to the event, it was also attended

by a noble who was the Potentate of the year

2003 when the unit was originally founded. His name

is Potentate Illustrious William Todd. So again, we

could can say that the reunion of these nobles made

the top highlight of the event.

The first event of the year 2012 that Scooter Patrol

Obsuna. With this in mind we would like to congratulate

the new officers of Khedive Temple for the 2012.

Special congratulations to our new Potentate, Illustrious

Sir Joe Register. We look forward to working with

you in this year’s coming months. With our Captain’s

fine example and leadership, we hope to do our best

in supporting all the Temple’s events and activities

throughout the year.

Once again, our sincere congratulations go to the

new officers of Khedive Temple and the unit Khedive

Scooter Patrol. More power to us all Nobles!

Happy New Year Nobles and welcome to a new

year of successes for our kids and hospitals.

Congratulations to all the elected members of

our divan in their new positions and know that we in

the Tidewater Shrine Club stand ready, able and willing

to assist you in any way we can

We have started the year out strong with a

$1000.00 donation from the Abingdon Ruritan Club

which we presented at the temple meeting when the

elections were held. We wanted Illustrious Sir Joe to

have a big start to his year.

I want to make note of our elections this year. We

have a full slate that is once again being led by Noble

President Mark Cook. Noble and Past President Rob

Parker stepped up to fill the position of First Vice

President and a new face, Gary Counasse, was voted in

at Second VP.A Sgt. At Arms post was filled by Noble

Bill Leary and Secretary Keith Webb stepped up to the

plate again which makes our slate full. Thanks to these

Brothers and Nobles.

We have already collected at least 35 plaque

members for the year as Nobles Jon Beck and Randy

Rogers don’t take a vacation from plaque fund raising.

They are just like the Ever Ready bunny, always moving

forward.

One new thing we

are working on this year is a golf tournament in honor

of Past President John Thomas. Noble Rob Parker is

working on the specifics and we will have information

on the Temple web site as soon as they are finalized.

The date will be Wednesday May the 23 rd so please

watch for upcoming info.

St Patty’s Day, the Daffodil festival and other

parades are coming up fast and we will be out to meet

and greet the public and show them how great we can

be with their donations and support.

I want to remind everyone of our meetings which

are the third Thursday of the month. We continue to

have two meeting places which we swap every other

month. In February we will be at Nicks Steak House

at the bottom of the Coleman Bridge in Gloucester.

In March we will be at the Pilot House Restaurant in

Topping, Va. We welcome all Nobles and look forward

to showing you some Tidewater Shrine Club hospitality.

Finally Nobles I realize a lot of us use the phrase

Welcome to 2012• Nobles! First, I’d like to

like to welcome our newest Fire Brigade members

and we look forward to having you being with us

this year.

Thanks so much to the members Fire Brigade

for entrusting me with the honor of being elected

as your Chief. I’m next in a long line of dedicated

nobles who have made a difference is many lives. I

hope to make you proud. I’d like to congratulate our

2011 Chief, Noble and Worshipful Robert P. ‘Bob’

Travis, Jr. on a great year and being selected as the

Fire Brigade Noble of the Year award.

The Fire Brigade is a very active unit but we can

always do more. I challenge everyone to step up

your individual and collective efforts in supporting

our noble philanthropy. It’s so much more than the

parades and fellowship. We mustn’t lose sight of the

very core of our mission, the kids! Let’s enjoy more

fellowship in our meetings, parade participation

and Shrine events.

Nobles, we are a part of something so special.

It’s easy to lose focus through life’s trials but

always keep this truth in mind;

regardless of what our trials

may be at any given moment,

there are children who are worse off and whose

quality of life depends solely on our participation.

Think about it, a few hours of active and engaged

participation literally means the world to the

children and their families. Let’s strive to show

them HOW WE ROLL!

We will have a lot of opportunities to participate

in our Unit this year. Looking for a unit to join?

Look no further. Jump on our beautiful 1941 Fire

truck and cruise on by the competition. These

kids light up when they see our big red truck,

dancing Dalmation “The Dog” and hear the rings

of the truck bells. We meet the second Tuesday

of every month at 7pm. Fellowship and dinner is

served promptly at 6:15. If you haven’t checked

Peninsula

Shrine Club

Well sort of, we did have installations, meaning

more than one. Although no one was sure

how many Clubs have installations alongside

a Unit, but the Peninsula Shrine Club did at their

December 2011 meeting. The unit was the Beach Bum

Brothers Unit which was founded in 2010.

The members of the Divan and Illustrious

Potentate Don Meyer swore in the Noble officers

of the Peninsula Shrine Club: President J. Richard

Rawls, Vice President Edward Van Wilson, Secretary

Adrian Lee Eure and Treasurer Charles F. Sutphin.

Immediately following the Clubs installation the Beach

Bum Brothers were sworn in, with a few different

names for the organization being slipped in to confuse

matters. Officers for the Beach Bum Brothers are;

Captain Richard Rawls, 1 st Lieutenant Arthur Gandy,

with Noble Bruce Edwards filling the two positions of

Secretary and Treasurer. A heartfelt round of applause

welcomed the officers to their new positions for both

the Club and the Unit.

Mingling became the rule of the evening as our

Nobles and wives greeted one another, attempted

to catch up, renewed acquaintances, and make new

friends. The evening was abuzz with music for the 50’s

and 60’s. Depending upon

where one sat determined

the volume of the buzz,

though it did not dampen

the festivities.

This year the Peninsula

Shrine Club’s installation

was held at “Artie and

Toni’s” in Newport News. No one went away, except

by choice, wanting for anything to either eat or drink.

The food was superb as was the service. The evenings

speakers held true to Brother Roosevelt’s three maxims

for public speaking; be clear, be brief and be seated.

A wonderful ending of the Clubs year with Noble

President Nick Raffaele, a successful turn over,

and a warm beginning for the Oldest Shrine Club’s

newest President Noble Richard Rawls, to both our

appreciation and congratulations.

The Peninsula Shrine Club would also like to

extend our sincere congratulations to Ill. Sir Joe

Register and the newly elected and installed Divan.

We look forward to receiving the Potentate and Divan

at his Official Visit on Monday February 27 th and look

forward to a productive 2012.

Congratulations to Illustrious Joe Register on

Noble Elwood Pascal on being elected as the Oriental

for doing such a wonderful job during 2011.

This has been a pretty busy winter for the Mini

in local holiday parades. Most notably, we were well

represented at the Lynnhaven Shores Community

Christmas Parade.

This past December, we held our officer installation

and Christmas party. Illustrious Jim Canterbury

During our January meeting we welcomed our

have been working to get it in tip-top shape. We are

By bud marchman

assistant director

Greetings Nobles: Well another year is upon

us which I hope will be a busy and rewarding

one. A tip of the Fez to all of 2011 Hillbilly Officers

and committees. It was a great year and an

outstanding job well done.

The Christmas Party and installation of Officers

was held at the Signature Golf and Country Club. A

grand time was had by all. Those installed for 2012

were Director: James C Larsen, Assistant Director: W.E.

“Bud” Marchman, Secretary: Lank Malbone, Treasurer:

C.W. “Bill” Nolan and Sergant at Arms: William T.

Hamilton.

As I write this article for the first quarter Hi-Noble

which has a deadline of 25 January, 2012 a leap of faith

must be taken and assume an outstanding time was

hopeful that by the

time the St. Patrick’s

Day Parade takes

place, the truck will be

ready to roll and Noble

Danny will be behind

the wheel of his new

rig, blasting his air horn to new levels of hearing loss….

So the next time you see Noble Danny, let him know

how jealous you are of him.

By the time this edition of the Hi-Noble goes to

print, Noble Danny’s new truck will have been shown

in the series “Shipping Wars” on A&E TV. Hopefully,

Khedive Temple and The Shriners Hospitals will get

positive media coverage during this series, as the crew

had a great time filming the delivery. The cameramen

got plenty of footage of me and the delivery driver

cruising the neighborhood in two Mini Rigs. Lots of

fun!

We normally meet on the first Monday of the

month and are always looking to add more trucks to

the road. If we cannot find a truck for you, then we

can build one. If you are interested in becoming a

member of Khedive’s “Best Looking Unit” then please

drop on by the Truck Stop for a visit, or give one of our

members a call.

Es Selamu Aleikum!

Noble Dave Adams

had at the Potentates Ball. The first unit outing of the

year the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade and the corned

beef lunch served after the parade were a huge success.

The unit greatly appreciates all the help and hard work

from our Ladies.

The unit meets the 4th Wednesday of each month

with dinner at 6:00 p.m. and meeting at 7:00 p.m. We

are looking for new members so come and check us

out. Looking forward to many parades and outings in

2012. See you around the shack.

by tom e. lasher

T

he Williamsburg Shrine Club would like to

congratulate Illustrious Joe Register on his election

to Potentate, to Noble Elwood Paschal on being

elected Oriental Guide and to all of the members of the

Divan on their advancements. What a great group of

officers our Temple has, and what a bright future.

The Club has had a busy and profitable fourth

quarter, beginning in October with a fundraiser Spaghetti

Dinner, held as always, at the Capitol Pancake House,

here in Williamsburg. The turnout was remarkable.

Nobody went away hungry, the working Nobles had fun,

and best of all we made money for our Temple and THE

KIDS.

Mr. Eric Endries, the Regional Director for the Virginia

Wounded Warrior Program, Greater Hampton Rhodes

area, presented our November program. Mr. Endries

spoke of the responsibilities that the Organization has

here of ensuring timely assessment, treatment and

support services for Virginia Veterans, Virginia residents

in the Armed Forces Reserves/ VA National Guard (not on

active duty) and their family members recovering from

the affects of stress-related injuries or traumatic brain

injuries. It was most interesting and well received by the

Nobles.

In December we had our annual Ladies Night

and Christmas Party. This year it was held at Colonial

Heritage, located just west of Williamsburg. Musical

entertainment was provided by the singing duo “Joe and

Me”, who were most enjoyable and entertaining.

At the conclusion of the evening, then Chief Rabban,

Joe Register, installed our 2012 Club officers, which made

for a fitting conclusion to a great evening.

The program for the Club’s January meeting was

presented by Worshipful M. Kent Brinkley who gave a

thorough history of Williamsburg Lodge No. 6. We all

learned much about its fascinating history.

Finally, a huge THANKS to Illustrious Don Meyer

and the 2011 Divan for a great year, and all of the support

they gave the Williamsburg Shrine Club. The Club

accomplished so much this past year, and without your

support, it would not have been possible. And what a joy

it was to have the Divan and their families at our various

functions throughout the year. Again thanks to Illustrious

Don and Lady Betty, as well as all of the other Divan

members and their families.

Hi-Noble, the Horse Patrol has had a rough

time keeping our members healthy. Jim Dominesey,

Gator Ferguson and I have been in the hospital for

surgery. Jim is doing well and hopes to be back on

his horse by the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Gator had

a three way heart by pass and is getting better every

day, but I think it’s going to take him a little longer

to spring back into the saddle. As for me, I broke my

pelvis bone and got some new hard ware installed in

my body. I will not be riding any horses this year, but

next year I will be back on the street riding.

Khedive Horse Patrol’s Christmas Party was

held on December 10 th at the home of Pete Wahl.

The newly elected officers were installed by Rich

Underdown, Assistant Rabban. The newly installed

officers are as follows: Captain, Gator Ferguson, 1 st

Lt., George Poston, 2 nd Lt., Kenny Askew, Secretary-

Treasurer, Randy Dean, Parade Director, Paul Scott,

and Board of Directors, Bill Davis, Pete Wahl and Paul

Scott. On behalf of me and the members of Khedive

Horse Patrol, we would like to thank Pete, Maryann

and Pete’s family for an outstanding Christmas Party

at their house.

The Horse Patrol congratulates Past Potentate,

Don Meyer, and his Divan on a successful year. We

pledge our support and look forward to working with

Illustrious Sir Joe Register and his Divan for the year

of 2012. Congrats go out to Rick Underdown for his

election to Chief Rabban, Randy Murphy to Assistant

Rabban, Ray Teller to High Priest and Prophet, and

Elwood Paschal to Oriental Guide.

The Horse Patrol is always looking for new

members, Riders or Non-Riders. We meet in the

Horse Patrol Clubroom at Greenbrier on the 1 st

Swashbucklers

Captain Dave Norton

Khedive’s youngest unit, the Swashbucklers

finished off the year in grand form with our

Christmas Party and Installation of Officers.

With most of our Mariners in full pirate regalia, we

were quite a sight! Illustrious Sir Don Meyer and

Oriental Guide RayRay Teller, both Mariners as

well, performed the duties of Marshall and Installing

Officer, respectively. Ill. Sir Don did a spectacular job

reading the charge, a special one he had prepared for

the occasion. Most of the Divan spent the evening with

us, as well, and everyone had a grand time. Mariner

Grant Smith, aka “Domingo the Red” led some of us

in a unique version of a familiar song known as, “The

Twelve Days of Sailing”.

Moving on to 2012, we are excited to have a

fundraiser on this year’s calendar! Make plans to

attend the “Khedive Swashbucklers 1st Ever Pirate

Pig-Pickin” on Sunday October 7, at Khedive Shrine

Center. Weather permitting, this will be an outdoor

event, and we’re not talking about just another

barbecue! We’ll have a whole pig (maybe two!) and

all the fixin’s for the very reasonable price of just

$15.00 per person. We’ll be selling tickets soon, get

yours early! I might mention that we are going to try

Greetings Nobles, Khedive Golf

Club would like to commend

Illustrious Donald E. Meyer

for the fantastic job he did last year

as Potentate and thank him and his

Divan for the support and recognition

they rendered to our Golf Club.

We would also like to congratulate

Khedive’s 2012 Potentate, Illustrious

Joseph T. Register and his Divan and

wish them success in the upcoming

year. We all look forward to another

fantastic year of Shriner Success and

Fraternal Unity. “Isn’t it great to be

a Shriner” rings strong with Khedive

Golf Club.

Our golf club members and

guests enjoyed last season immensely.

As a new season quickly approaches

we are ready to start anew under the

gifted leadership of our President,

Noble Johnnie Chandler and

Secretary-Treasurer Noble Rod

Rushford. Our Chaplain is Noble T.

Dudley Myers.

Last year our Club enjoyed

playing over 30 golf outings at

fourteen different area golf courses

at a discount rate. We were privileged

to be able to raise and donate $5,000

to the Transportation Unit Fund.

Springtime golf is usually somewhat

rusty with many off-center hits but

we always strive to improve all year

long. In doing so we have fun and

fulfillment knowing that the monies

we raise will help young children and

families in their time of need. We

are blessed that we can swing a club

and walk down the fairways. Our golf

handicaps vary widely from low to

high and score is usually secondary to

and support any

unit that might

need help with

a fund raiser. So if your unit

needs some help let us know.

We have a lot of talent and

experienced in our unit and

we love to share.

We hope to start working on our ship in the near

future. Noble Jody Dudley donated a trailer that will

become the platform to build upon. Past Cap’n Roscoe

has communicated with several other Shrine pirate

units and has come up with some good plans to work

with.

Meanwhile, we’ll be lookin’ to hijack a yacht or a

dinghy for the St. Patricks Day Parade, so keep an eye

out fer us!

Khedive Swashbucklers meet on the 3rd Wednesday

of the month, currently at Norton Sandblasting

Directors Staff

Congratulations to Illustrious Sir Joseph T, Register

Jr. and his Divan on their elections to serve our

temple for the year 2012. “ISN’T IT GREAT TO BE A

SHRINER;” this motto was selected in honor of Illustrious

Sir Charles W. Davis P.P. of Khedive Shrine in the year of

1971.

I would like to thank Illustrious Sir Joseph T. Register

Jr. on my appointment to the position of Temple Director.

I consider it an honor to serve with this Divan. The Staff

is looking forward to working with you and your Divan for

this year.

I would like to thank the Officers of the Director’s

Staff, Watt Perley Director, Donald Respess Assistant

Director and James Kiphart Secretary / Treasurer for

agreeing to accept their positions for the year 2012 ( and

more ) , as stated by Harry S. Truman circa June 1950 ,

“For The Duration”.

This past November two of our Staff members , Watt

Perley and Robert Parrish were honored by their Masonic

Lodge, Corinthian 266 for having completed Fifty Years

by Watt Perley

director

of membership in the Masonic

Fraternity , they were presented with

a certificate from the Grand Lodge of

the Commonwealth of Virginia and a Fifty year lapel pin.

Now on a personal note , I want to thank the Illustrious

Sir Donald E. Meyer P.P. for allowing Illustrious Sir

Richard E. Wright P.P. to present me with my certificate

and lapel pin as a Life Member of Khedive Temple , at our

annual meeting on 7 January 2012. Illustrious Sir Richard

E. Wright P.P., not only being a Staff member for Fifty

Years , but a personal friend for Fifty Years , THANK YOU

Dick. By the way, Illustrious Sir Richard Wright P.P. and

Khedives Treasurer will receive his Fifty Year certificate

and lapel pin this year, Way to go , Dick.

I believe this makes me and Illustrious Sir Richard

E. Wright P.P. , possibly the only two in our Temple with

Fifty Years of membership in the same Unit and the same

Temple.

Ocean View Shrine Club

by christopher Beehler, President

Greetings from the Ocean View Shrine Club! We’d

like to start our year by congratulating all the

newly elected members of the Divan, led by Ill.

Potentate Joseph T. Register! Congratulations are also

in order for all the members of the Divan elected to fill

a higher position, and especially to the recently elected

Oriental Guide and long-time OVSC member Elwood

Paschal!

Elections were held during the December 2011

Christmas Party. The following officers were installed for

2012: President, Christopher Beehler; Secretary, Alan

Brown; Treasurer, Bill Coker. Our board of directors for

2012 is: Lank Malbone (1 yr.), Ernie Ayers (1 yr.), Ron

Lee (1 yr.), Jimmy Evans (2 yrs.), George Poston (2 yrs.),

and Skip Patnode (2 yrs). A special thank you goes out

to Noble Past President Lank Malbone for the dedicated,

selfless service he provided to our Shrine Club these past

two years.

As we jump into 2012, we’re looking forward to a year

of continued food, fun and fraternity as we work to carry

out our mission for the children that the Shrine cares for.

We have a few things on our plate this year and plan to

be busy in one way or another providing what we can for

the benefit of our Hospitals and the Transportation fund.

Some of our familiar fundraisers are the plaque program

and the Vidalia onion sale.

Nobles who would like to contribute their first $100

to our plaque program will receive a handsome plaque

showcasing their support of the Transportation Fund.

Nobles who graciously continue their $100 support will

receive an engraved plate for 2012. This is a great way to

help our kids and help decorate your wall! Please contact

our Treasurer Bill Coker to pledge your support.

We will also be expanding our Vidalia onion sales

to 300 bags, with the gracious support of the Tidewater

Shrine club. These magnificently delicious onions will be

available for the incredibly reasonable price of $10 per

10 pound bag. These onions are great for everything and

make a wonderful anytime gift for your friends, family

and neighbors. Supporting your Ocean View Shrine Club

never tasted so good! For more information about this

fundraiser, please contact Noble Lank Malbone.

Nobles, if you’re interested in the Ocean View Shrine

Club, please join us for a meeting. We meet every 1 st

Thursday of each month at Mom and Pop’s Restaurant,

located at 331 East Bayview Boulevard in Norfolk. Social

hour begins at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:45 p.m. We would

truly enjoy sharing our fellowship with you! We hope to

see many new Nobles at our next meeting.
