Learn and review helping verbs, pronouns, adjectives, count/non-count nouns, and tenses (present,<br />

present progressive, and simple past).<br />

Learn grammar for everyday writing and speaking: present, progressive and future tenses, irregular<br />

verbs in the past tense, modal verbs, pronouns, order of adjectives, and comparisons.<br />

Improve grammar for everyday writing and conversation: present perfect and present perfect continuous,<br />

and future tenses, noun clauses, and grammar to cover frequency, duration, possibility, and necessity.<br />

Focus on an overview of all the tenses. This course also covers passive voice and sequence of tenses<br />

with adverbial clauses.<br />

Explore complex sentence structure, participial phrases, reduced adjective clauses and appositives,<br />

infinitives and gerunds, hypothetical conditionals, and the subjunctive.<br />

Improve comprehensibility and comprehension through explanation, demonstration, and practice of the<br />

English sound system. Learn tongue and mouth positions, vowels and consonants, stress, rhythm, and<br />

intonation.<br />

Learn about American culture by looking at food, health, nutrition, and meal choices popular with<br />

Americans. This class will review issues about food production, selection, preparation, and consumption<br />

(eating).<br />

Develop an active vocabulary of commonly used words in general and academic English.<br />

Learn ways to study, survive, and succeed in college. This course is an introduction to the American<br />

Learn to research, plan, structure, and write technical materials such as technical manuals, research<br />

Experience an introduction to test-taking strategies for the iBT TOEFL. This class meets three hours per<br />

week. Only Intermediate level students may attend this class.<br />

Enhance test-taking strategies for specific areas of the iBT TOEFL and the paper and pencil TOEFL. This is a<br />

super-intensive elective course and meets six hours per week. Only Advanced level students may attend this class.<br />
