areas: .fr (France), .re (Reunion Island), .pm (St. Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern

Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna), and .yt (Mayotte).

In an Order published in the Official Journal of the French Republic on 28 June 2012, Ms

Fleur Pellerin, Junior Minister for the Digital Economy, appointed Afnic as the registry for the

.fr TLD for a new five-year term.

Since its inception in 1998, Afnic's objective has been to help the development of an

Internet that is secure and stable, open to innovation, and in which the French

Internet community plays a key role.

To do so, its assignments are to excel in providing resilient essential services in the

Internet’s core infrastructure in France, develop and share its expertise in order to

facilitate transition to the Future Internet.

Afnic is central to the French Internet. All of its employees have adopted its values of

teamwork, integrity, respect for others, professionalism and perseverance in order to

serve the best interests of the Internet community.

Afnic strategic priorities 2012 - 2015

Confirm the preference for the .fr TLD

The .fr TLD has a number of advantages: as the French national extension, it creates a link

with France, with French-language content, and with the French market. Asserting the

preference among French users for the .fr TLD is a key strategic priority for Afnic action.

Support projects for new TLDs as a technical operator

The market for domain names will undergo significant changes with the opening of hundreds

or thousands of new extensions from 2013 onwards. By capitalizing on its core business,

Afnic is positioned as the technical operator for registries on behalf of companies that have

decided to carry on TLD projects.
