On behalf of Remy Millott, our Managing Director, and the rest of the management team,<br />

I am proud to present the souvenir brochure from the <strong>22</strong>nd Annual <strong>Pinmar</strong> Yachtsman’s<br />

Golf Tournament.<br />

The 2010 tournament broke all attendance records. 352 players entered and over 840 guests<br />

attended the prize-giving dinner at the Gran Casino Mallorca. Over 100 sponsors supported the<br />

event (listed on page 65) and 90 volunteers (page 57) put in a huge amount of work to make<br />

it all possible.<br />

Thanks to all our players, sponsors, volunteers and guests, and especially Awlgrip our co-sponsor,<br />

and our Principal Sponsors Marina Barcelona 92, Sturge, Freedom Maritime, Master Yachts and<br />

Rybovich, the tournament was another great success. The great generosity of all who took part<br />

meant we were able to raise another € 46,000 for our various charities – a fantastic total.<br />

On page 134 you can see where the money went.<br />

We are very grateful to all who made donations and also to all the volunteers and special<br />

thanks to Roger Horner of E3 Group and Richard Gardiner of Global Services for running the<br />

Ugly Sisters’ Bar. Altogether the total raised at the golf over the two days was a record<br />

€ 17,063 and that does not include the extra €2,000 we raised thanks to Ian Knight of Lighthouse<br />

Marine and Johnny Greenall, Dan Vickers and Sean Tinkler-Rose of Sloane Helicopters and those<br />

who paid for a spectacular flight over the course and beyond.<br />

I think everyone who played agreed that the Son Gual golf course was absolutely stunning and<br />

on their behalf I should like to thank all of the Pamer family and their charming staff for their<br />

warm and efficient hospitality and also Gareth Anwell and his incredible greenkeeping team who<br />

managed to present the course in impeccable condition despite the torrential rain they had to<br />

cope with in the preceding days. I’m sure you will all be delighted to know that we are returning<br />

there in 2011 and, while we are on the subject, please note that the dates are 13, 14 and 15<br />

October 2011 and NOT as shown in your <strong>Pinmar</strong> diaries.<br />

Thanks also to Richie Prior for hosting the Prizegiving Dinner. For this year’s event we are going back<br />

to the Casino and Come Fly with Me show. Sadly the founder and owner of the show, Jacques Sasson,<br />

died recently and we have also just lost another larger than life character, John Rule. Although neither<br />

was a golfer they both had a significant impact on our tournament. (Please see page 133)<br />

We would also like to thank Jacques’s daughter, Cathy Sasson, and the rest of her brilliant team from<br />

Globo Balear for organising such a splendid evening at the Casino and especially Simon Hirst, Claire<br />

Darbyshire and show director Martyn Smith. Also Jo Lane and Ayeesha Wood of Diamond Events for<br />

looking after the travelling players and guests together with Nicky Roberts of Ticket Travel.<br />

A big thank you to the Marshall Islands Yacht Registry for sponsoring the Friday party at Il Paradiso<br />

for all the travelling players.<br />

Once again Malcolm and Susie Hall and Jonny Rapp of Compass Design have put a huge amount<br />

of work into this brochure which is only possible thanks to our many advertisers and our<br />

volunteer photographers Simon Williams, Oliver Neilson, Stuart Pearce, Aveena Clarke, Esther<br />

Barney and Ben Sturge.<br />

John founded The<br />

Islander magazine in March<br />

1997. From the start he<br />

always kindly supported<br />

our tournament giving<br />

regular positive coverage<br />

of our efforts.<br />

Although he never played<br />

(as a passionate Welsh rugby man he regarded a golf<br />

ball as far too small and entirely the wrong shape for<br />

serious sport!) he was very willing to help directly<br />

when it came to fundraising for our various charities.<br />

To this end he organized The Islander Quiz at the<br />

Prizegiving Dinner for 10 years and helped to raise<br />

many thousands of Euros in the process.<br />

He wrote a typically warm, light-hearted history of<br />

the tournament for our 20th event in 2008.<br />

December 2010.<br />

Jacques, who had a full<br />

and vibrant life, will<br />

always be remembered<br />

for his invention of the legendary Pirates show in<br />

Mallorca which has been running for 25 years and<br />

more recently for his new Come Fly with Me show at<br />

the Casino in Sol de Mallorca. Jacques was an exceptional<br />

host greeting most of his guests in their own<br />

language – he spoke nine!<br />

child sexual abuse in the<br />

Balearic Islands. Since our<br />

inception five years ago,<br />

R<strong>AN</strong>A has dedicated our<br />

resources to eradicating this<br />

form of mistreatment and<br />

violence against children by<br />

raising the consciousness in<br />

the community of the<br />

prevalence of sexual abuse<br />

through awareness, educational<br />

and outreach activities. Experts estimate that one in four<br />

girls and one in six boys could be sexually abused before<br />

their 18th birthday. Less than one in ten will tell.<br />

The Allen Graham Charity 4 Kidz supports<br />

children in need on the island of Mallorca.<br />

Dedicated to giving a future to mistreated and abused<br />

children now in care, many of whom have been<br />

traumatised and scarred by their experiences.<br />

Providing study materials and learning skills needed<br />

for that important step of leaving residential care and<br />

integrating back into the community.<br />

Our sincere thanks to the many, many generous people<br />

who have given so much and we trust will continue<br />

to help us.<br />

R<strong>AN</strong>A’s prevention program offers training courses,<br />

workshops and educational programs to professionals,<br />

parents and responsible adults on how to better recognize<br />

and act responsibly when faced with the knowledge or<br />

suspicion of an abuse. We provide private consultations and<br />

an orientation to hundreds of calls and visits each year from<br />

concerned family members, teachers, neighbors, professionals<br />

and priests. As the rate of reported abuse has risen 60%<br />

in the last two years in the Baleares, we believe we are<br />

achieving our goal of breaking through the barriers of this<br />

taboo topic and creating an environment that allows for the<br />

cycle of recovery for many children to begin. Last year, we<br />

began a program offering psychological treatment to adults<br />

who have been sexually abused in their childhood, assuring<br />

that these victims also have chance to lead successful and<br />

productive lives without carrying the burden of their abuse<br />

in silence and in shame.<br />

We are raising money to create a day centre which is<br />

to become a childrens’ hospice based on the philosophy<br />

of those already existing in Europe and the USA. As yet<br />

there not one existing in Spain.<br />

We will support family members caring for<br />

children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses or<br />

children with limited life-expectancy, as this will also<br />

improve the quality of life of the sick child.<br />

This centre will be a home for parents, brothers and<br />

sisters and other family members and carers, where<br />

they can relax, feel understood and<br />

accompanied and disconnect from life’s daily<br />

wear-and-tear by finding diversion, empathy,<br />

support and qualified professional attention.<br />

The Charities<br />

This year’s charity fund is mostly going to be given to local charities which help children in various ways. As usual several of<br />

these were chosen by the winners of the previous tournament - Cheetah Moon.<br />

In addition to those already thanked in the introduction for their help in reaching this year’s total, we should also like to thank<br />

the following:<br />

The Yacht Report Group, Freedom Maritime, Ocean Medical International, Universal Nautic and Yacht Chandlers for making<br />

very generous donations directly to the charity fund.<br />

sponsor the newest aspect of our prevention program,<br />

the “Cuentacuentos” or Storytelling Sessions. Through the<br />

use of a children’s story, “Estela, Cry Out Loud!” and<br />

a didactic guide, our staff members enter into the classrooms<br />

of students aged 6 to 11 and re-enact the story of Estela,<br />

a young girl who learns how to protect herself from being<br />

bullied and sexually abused.<br />
