Per<strong>for</strong>mance Steps<br />

3. Maintain camouflage.<br />

Note: Camouflage is anything you use to keep yourself, your equipment, and your position<br />

from being identified.<br />

a. Prevent attention by controlling movement and activities.<br />

b. Avoid putting anything where the enemy expects to find it.<br />

c. Break up outlines and shadows.<br />

d. Conceal shining objects.<br />

e. Break up familiar shapes to make them blend in with their<br />

surroundings.<br />

f. Camouflage yourself and your equipment to blend with the<br />

surroundings.<br />

g. Ensure proper dispersion.<br />

h. Study the terrain and vegetation of the area in which you are operating.<br />

i. Use camouflage material that best blends with the area.<br />

4. Select a position that allows effective weapon emplacement.<br />

a. Ensure proper sector of fires <strong>for</strong> appropriate weapon system.<br />

b. Ensure proper field of fires.<br />

(1) Avoid disclosing your position by careless or excessive clearing.<br />

(2) Leave a thin, natural screen of vegetation to hide your position.<br />

(3) Cut off lower branches of large, scattered trees, in thin wooded<br />

areas.<br />

(4) Clear underbrush only where it blocks your view.<br />

(5) Remove cut brush, limbs, and weeds so the enemy will not spot<br />

them.<br />

(6) Cover cuts on trees and bushes <strong>for</strong>ward of your position with mud,<br />

dirt, or snow.<br />

(7) Leave no trails as clues <strong>for</strong> the enemy.<br />

5. Continue to follow the leader's directions after selection of a fighting<br />

position.<br />

Evaluation Preparation: Setup: Provide the Soldier with the equipment<br />

and/or materials described in the conditions statement.<br />

Brief Soldier: Tell the Soldier what is expected of him by reviewing the<br />

task standards. Stress the importance of observing all cautions, warnings,<br />

and dangers to avoid injury to personnel and, if applicable, damage to<br />

equipment.<br />
