Per<strong>for</strong>mance Steps<br />

c. The name and call sign or phone number of the person reporting the<br />

incident.<br />

d. Identify the UXO by type (dropped, projected, thrown or placed), and<br />

by subgroup.<br />

e. Any NBC contamination present.<br />

f. Are any resources threatened?<br />

g. Does the UXO have a bad affect on the mission? If yes, how?<br />

h. The safety measures that have been taken to include evacuation of<br />

personnel or troops under cover.<br />

i. The requested priority <strong>for</strong> receiving EOD/Engineer support (immediate,<br />

indirect, minor or no-threat), based upon tactical situation.<br />

2. Observe all safety precautions. Do not touch or move the UXO. The<br />

slightest movement can cause the UXO to detonate. If the UXO is suspected of<br />

having a toxic chemical filler, stay upwind. Observe and evaluate the UXO from<br />

the maximum distance possible using binoculars.<br />

Evaluation Preparation: Setup: Place an item of UXO on the ground in<br />

such a manner that it is visible from at least several yards away. A large<br />

item of UXO may be buried in part.<br />

Brief Soldier: Tell the Soldier to record as much in<strong>for</strong>mation about the<br />

item of UXO as possible without touching it. Also, tell the Soldier that all<br />

recording and observation should be accomplished from the maximum<br />

distance possible. Brief the Soldier about any safety precautions associated<br />

with the specific UXO item.<br />
